Mid-length Barrel with Full Length Handguards

I have seen pictures of quite a few rifles with this setup. Other than cosmetics, are there any other good reasons why people do this?

I would say longer sight radius which helps improve accuracy.

longer sight radius--if using rail mounted sight
more forward (more stable) bipod mount if spr/varmint type set-up
cover more of the hot barrel

but, of course, the main reason I went with a rifle length DD rail on my middy is that it looks
87times cooler that way..........

Just put this one together yesterday. I like the longer sight radius and forward position of the bipod and I think it looks super-uber-mega-tacticool.

I like the longer sight radius and also when doing transitions,less of the barrel is exposed to burn my leg. Bipod mounting is easier also

I converted my regular carbine to a dissy style because the carbine handguards were too short.

I like that I can "stretch" a bit and not run off the hand guard. Oh, and they look very cool, especially with the Vortex!

Keeps the hot barrel off of your thigh. Also provides a LONG stretch of handguard to rest the front end of the gun on. With my MRP I can kneel behind cover and rest the gun on it without crowding my cover.

What type of accuracy have you achieved with your RECON upper? Target pics? With what ammo? Nice looking weapon!

Sorry to bump this from the dead but I figure its better to this than start a new thread.

In any case, my question is, how much do these things (midlength with 12/13.2 inch FF) weigh compared to day a midlength with FF and FSB? This, of course, taking all thing being equal meaning comparing LaRue 9 inch and FSB with a LaRue 13.2 inch with low profile gas block.

I figure that you DO save some weight not having that FSB there, but it HAS to weigh considerably more with the additional length. Do any of you find it too barrel or front heavy? Thanks.
