I've shot 68gr and 69gr in a 1/9 barrel without problems. |

There are no issues whatsoever with shooting any particular bullet weight (as far as barrel wear is concerned) with a 1:9 barrel. Your barrel might be more accurate with 55gr, or 50 gr, or 75 gr. You'll have to find out, since each barrel is unique. The only reason I shoot more 55 gr than 62 is because I generally find the 55 gr ammo cheaper than the 62, but I have shot tons of 62 gr through mine.

69 grain is as high as I would go for a 1:9. I have a 1:7 and shoot mostly 55 and 62

So I guess it's more a matter of stabilizing the heavier bullet with a slower twist. Accuracy might be the only casualty. Would that be a fair statement?

Correct. You can shoot as much 77 gr. through your 1/9 as you want. It ain't gonna hurt it a bit. Whether you hit the target is another thing. Experiment with a ride range of ammunition to find what your gun likes. Generally a 1/9 will stabilize anything from 40 gr. to 69 gr., but you may even be able to shoot 75 gr. successfully. Doubt you will be able to stabilize the 77 gr., but stranger things have happened. |

Where do you get that from? 1:9 barrels came AFTER 62 grain ammo. The belgians made the SS109 bullet (62 gr), tracer round is too long to be easily stabilized, so they make the barrels 1:7, which is not necessary for most rounds (at the time, anyway). 1:9 is just about perfect for 62 gr bullets, so barrel makers start making them in that twist, since it stabilizes most weights just fine. |

I shot some 62 grain steel core S&B made in Spain I bought at a gun show 5 or 6 years ago this am in a 1/9 twist Bushmaster Varminter. It fired 10 shots in a 1 1/2 inch group at 100 yards and I was well pleased.
