It can happen. There is a lot of stress at the 90 degree angle on the bolt locking lugs. The problem can be made worse if tiny pitting develops there due to corrosion or poor maintenance.

We are statring to see them crack at around 7500 rds., and wondering if anyone else has seen the same.

Eventually they always crack. The shorter the barrel, the sooner they crack. Colt warranties M4 bolts for 7,000 rounds.

Word is that Colt M4 bolts are lasting about 20,000 rounds. Last I heard anyway.
Are these M4's, or M4A1's or are they rebuilds? |

These new Carbines? If so they would have a W prefix and come in a box like this (this one W338323):    Also with the M4A1 you can toast the bolt sooner doing a bunch of mag dumps. |

The armory takes them out of the box and issues them to individuals. After a exercise the number of rds is turned into the armory and they track it.

OK, I follow you.
There were some rebuilds on M16A2 lowers issued out last year, and I don't know if they used the original bolts or not. If so I would not expect them to last long. And like I said before doing lots of mag dumps with the M4A1 like it is a subgun will wear it fast. |

You only need 2 locking lugs anyway, the rest are there for looks...
