No, not that one.  I believe it's this one by Smithy in the pic thread:

I don't know.  I'm looking at getting one too.  I think Tom Sawyer MFG engraves lowers like that, but I'm not sure...

I just printed out the picture of Smithy's work, reduced it, masked off my lower, cut the skull out with an Xacto knife, used gray primer, and then painted the skull with OD Green Krylon.  It has held up rather well even to solvents.

Is it necessary to prime before putting on a stencil?

Or does the primer serve some other function, like making the stencil easier to remove?

I'm interested in doing a stencil on the right side of the magwell, but don't want to have to refinish the whole lower if I decide to take the image off later.

Ideas?

So many cool stencil pics on this board...

The better the finish, the hard it will be to remove.  You can always spray a bit of krylon into a cup and use it.  If you don't like the way it comes out, you can spray it off with carb cleaner, or use acetone, lacquer thinner or whatever else you like.

So the carb cleaner, etc., will remove Krylon but not remove the annodizing?

And if I prime beforehand, the stencil will last longer?  But if I don't prime, the stencil will paint on fine but not be as durable?

Why even paint it on? Try cutting it out of some sort of adhesive film. If it get's damaged, apply another one, just like a decal. If you get sick of it, remove it.

Here is the template i have. By the way i saw the picture in one of josephr's post. He was talking about which design if any to paint on a rifle. I found the pic and put it on mine. Im not taking credit for the skull because i dont know where josephr got it, but it was his idea in the first place to put on a rifle, i just followed up on it. Thanks for the interest.

Go get some vinyl cut decals made.  You can get them done locally at most sign and lettering shops real cheap.  You just have to bring in a picture on a disk and they can do it real quick for you.

thanks i took your pic resized i then took clear packaging tape and put it on a paper from the printer then placed the blue painters mask on it and printed it on to the tape thruthe printer the packaging tape kept the mask from bonding to the paper and i now have a stencel to cut out

That is bad ass.  Way better then the ARs I have seen with skulls.  I think its the subdued look of it and the coloring on the frame..
