Take a wooden rod and a mallet, slip the wooden rod down the barrel and tap it with the mallet. Don’t wack on it and bust off the rod in the barrel but give it good solid taps. You don’t need an additional item stuck in the barrel.

We had a Bushmaster come in the other day with the empty chamber indictor broken just like you mention. We locked the bolt back and used a cleaning rod to ker-thunk it out. It was in there fairly tight but it came out with a little persuasion with the cleaning rod. By other’s logic I guess that means you don’t buy Bushmaster either?
Best advice: relax, don't panic, and don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. Getting a chamber flag out of the chamber is not rocket surgery. |

Cleaning rod (or brass rod) and a hammer; drive the cleaning rod into the barrel and hammer the plastic plug out.
