I just got an Colt SP-1 manufactured around 1975 based on the serial number and the lower is stamped 223 and I cant find any stamping on the barrel.  Does this mean I can't shoot my XM193 through it?  Those boxes are marked 5.56 and I have read that 5.56 in a 223 weapon can be a bad thing.

Thanks in advance.

It appears that you may use both .223 and 5.56 according to my Colt instruction manual. However you may want to contact Colt directly and pose your question to them being that your rifle is of 1975 vintage and this manual having a 1979 copyright date. Good luck and congratulations on your new Colt.
