I have both , but there is something about the A1 , that makes it my favorite , - probally all those Vietnam movies i have watched !

My first former AR was a SP-1 back in '71.
 Now I have a A2 clone with Colt M16A2 upper half on Colt MT6601 Match Target HBAR lower.

Always a pleasure to shoot my A2. Every time I go shooting I bring my tricked out M4 with all these supposed upgrades that are really just extra weight, and every time I end up just shooting my 20" A2. The fixed stock and non-upgraded handling make it a lot more comfortable, not to mention it's way lighter.

Got 2 A4s..one complete, one in the works....well, a third will be comming, a middy
 got a A2 in the works...also a spare stripped A2 got a A1 in the works got a A0 (slabside A1) in the works.... I aint made of gold....I'm working on it though so I voted both...eventually  I hate this site

I have a Colt that's one of the "tweener" models. It's all A2 stuff on an A1 upper and lower receiver. Lower receiver lacks the mag release fence. For a while, I had an A2 upper on it, but put it back to original.

Uhm, if your accessories suck that much, then why don't you take them off? I have an Aimpoint, light, and BUIS on my rifle that are real upgrades that aren't just extra weight. |

I voted both. My range/practice/target rifle is an A2 right now, but is going to get triangle HGs soon. I might put a LW barrel on it too. Since I got my A1 I just don't like the feel of the A2 anymore. The A1 just points and handles better, even better than my 16". I haven't even handled any new EuroTrash Wonderguns that I like as well. Maybe an AUG, but I haven't shot one. I also don't see the need for the shell deflector. I guess that's a lefty thing.

A1 w/same plane aps! Btw I like the A3 Flat Top / arms 40 better than the A2 LUMPY what Brand is that A1/M4 Very Nice! I love simple AR15`S |

Doing some quick math provided by the poll, only 26% of the respondents (13% Neither and 13% Steak Sauce) do not have a fixed sights/carry handle type of AR15. I am curious to know if this is the actually trend of ownership (at least here on ARFCOM): 74% do and 26% do not.
I wonder if the total number of AR15s people own determines whether of not a fixed carry handle is a part of their collection? If I had to get rid of two of my AR15s, I would definitely keep one as an A2/A1 setup. Probably the A1 Carbine. |

If there are at least 100 collected data, the result will be valid already. More numbers of data will only change the result but only a little, the result of the 100th will generally be the same. For the correlation of quantity of rifles owned and owning an A1/ A2, there is not enough info in this poll about how many rifles an individual owns and maybe another specific poll for that will answer that question. I was a former Statistical Process Control/ manufacturing engineer for six years using ISO 9001 with a major military aircraft subcontractor. |

Just about everyone was telling me here that I was going to regret building my M4 style AR with an A2 upper. I don't regret it, if I had a flat top it would just be a reason to buy more junk to put on it.
I like flat tops also and may build one one of these days, but I still think AR's have carry handles. |

At the moment I have an 18" rifle barrel I had made with a Bushmaster postban barrel. It is attached to a Colt A2 upper I bought cause I needed an iron sighted rifle fast.
I detest A2 uppers. For the type of shooting I do, they offer only serious disadvantages over A1 uppers. If you have ever had an A2 elevation dial turn just from rubbing against your chest then you know what I mean. I think I am gonna sell the A2 and get one of those A1 slickside receivers from Fulton Armory. |

The primary difference between the A1 and A2 style upper is the rear sight although some A1 uppers do not have a FA or brass deflector (slabside). A1 uppers allow for windage adjustment via a detent (have to depress it and turn the wheel) and are semi-permanent. The A2 upper has both windage and elevation adjustments at the turn of the dial/knob. These adjustments are not fixed with a detent but use a ballbearing to click into place and are readily available and sometime unwanted. As Combat_Jack stated, the elevation wheel can move simply by brushing up against your body and thus affecting your shots. |
