Is it possible to put a colt upper on a bushmaster lower?  Is it possible to just switch barrels? Are the colors different?  The reason I am asking is because my uncle is selling his 2 colt AR's and I have a 20 in barrel on my Bushmaster but I want his 14.5 in.

It is my understanding that they you can put a Colt upper on a Bushy lower.  I imagine the color will be a little off, but function over form as far as I'm concerned.

You should be able to just switch barrels, but that would be a huge pain if you could just put pop the pins and put the upper on and go.

I'm sure one of the board experts will be along shortly.

Some COLT's use a larger than normal pivot pin so there could be a difference in the front pivot pin size... Other than that, every thing else is compatible...

I am running a Colt M4 upper assembly with a Bushy lower with no problems.  Just make sure that the Colt upper has the mil. spec. hole sizes.  Mine fit together nicely and the colors match good enough for me.

Think about it though...  It could be the first Bushmaster that doesnt have a canted FSB...

Just cause it's possible doesn't mean you should do it.  That would be an injustice to the colt...kind of like putting AR parts/accessories on an AK

Chances are if you're uncles Colt has a 14.5" M4 type barrel it come with a black receiver that has a standard sized pivot pin hole. But there might still be a slight mis-match between the Colt and Bushmaster black. But it should fit right up with no problems.

Why not just leave the colt as a colt?
I wouldnt bother switching anything.

Even if the lower and upper have different size holes, you can get adapter or offset pins and still be good to go.

Would Mil. Spec. be a large or small piviot pin?

Especially if you have a Colt LE6920-Shooter!

Mil-spec would be the smaller of the two...

The only thing I like about Colt's is the Chromed Carriers, barrels, and well that's it. I had a Colt with a Bushmaster barrel and it ran like a champ, I originally bought the Bushmaster upper for the Colt but they had two different front pin sizes so I pulled the barrel and put it on the Colt upper.
