I've got a 16" HBar flat top Bushy with an Aimpoint clone (Hakko), LaRue fixed BUIS, 2 piece MI handguards, TD vert grip and a Pentagon 9V light that tops out at 9.5 lbs. with a full mag it.

I've been thinking of saving my money and getting an 14.5" M4/Govt. profile barrel to save some weight.

Is my mid-length really that heavy compared to the others?

I see a lot of mid-lengths that run HBar's so I know I'm not alone here.

You didn't mention what kind of stock you have, what kind of mount for the Hakko and what kind of rail panels you have.

My mid-length, unloaded, weighs in a 8.8 lbs
- CMMG Govt. profile 16" bbl w/Phantom FH (around 34 oz)
- Magpul M93B w/carbine buffer (this stock weighs around 20 oz. w/buffer)
- Magpul MIAD grip with a few 1/3N batteries I need to take out now.
- Trijicon Accupoint TR-21R w/Larue SPR-E mount (probably around a pound total)
- Troy BUIS (this is the lightest BUIS I know of)
- PRI FS
- Larue 9.0 rail system (13.0 oz)
- enough Tango Down rail panels to cover almost all the 3, 6, and 9 o'oclock rails. The top one has ladders panels. I leave a few rail slots  at the 3 o'clock position covered with a short rail panel for the Surefire M952. TD panels weight 0.9 oz. each.

IIRC, the MI handguards are a bit on the heavier side but I don't recall how much heavier than are but the bbl is what's really killing ya. Check out these weights:

14.5" M4 - 25.0 oz
16" HBAR - 36.2 oz

This weighs exactly 7.5lbs unloaded (which should put it at about 8.5lbs loaded).

My mid-length mid-weight profile Denny's Operator 16" barrel empty weights about 8 lbs.

Components:
Standard F FSB
LaRue 9.0 rails
TD rail panels (X 1 & 1/2)
TD VFG
Magpul ladder protectors
Magpul MIAD grip
Vltor club foot modstock with long compartments
KAC BUIS
Aimpoint M2
KAC straight up mount
SureFire M961C
Two point sling

My M4gery with the same barrel length empty weights about 7 lbs.

Components:
Standard F FSB
KAC M4 RAS
KAC VFG
TD rail panels (X 1 and 1/2)
Magpul ladder protectors
Magpul MIAD grip
Vltor CAR modstock with long compartments
EOTech 551 (short model - no extra mount)
LMT fixed BUIS
SureFire G2 with Z32 head and Z49 clicker tail switch
DD offset light mount
Single point sling

I don't have an accurate scale (YMMV) but the difference between my middy and M4gery is 1 lb.

For comparison a stock M4 Colt LE6920 weight is 5.95 lb per their website.

It's a 6-pos. CavArms collapsable stock.

I have TD ladder rail cover on the top and TD full covers on each side and the bottom.

The optic mount is one I got from Ameetec Arms here locally.

I'm trying to figure out if going to a M4/Govt. profile barrel, or even a super light, will give me enough of a weight reduction to be significant.

Well, why didn't you just ask that question in the first place.

16" HBAR - 36.2 oz.
16" M4 - 28.2 oz.
14.5" M4 - 25.0 oz.
16" Super Light Weight (A1 type) - 23.4 oz.

This is the third time I posted this data today. Must be one of those weekends.

Cool. The data I gave is from the source as in that post and I've got my eye on a CMMG 14.5" midlength LW bbl.
