Enter the Smith and Wesson M&P15-T.
It sounds like a bag of candy or something you would put on a sore joint. M&P cream. S&W tradition it seems. MSRP per S&W: The M&P15 will carry a suggested retail price of $1,200, while the M&P15T will retail for $1,700. A bit pricey perhaps, for the new kid on the block? OK, guess I never followed their products that much. |

M&P....Military and Police....since 1899 |

Still sounds odd to me. I have had both good and bad S&W products, so the name does not matter I suppose, if it is a S&W tradition and it is a good product. I guess I wanted to see everyones overall reaction to this new offering. Will change title and add poll. The big question is, will they build their own, or just rebadge a CMT product or the like. And will it have a safe-T lock key? Ugh I hope not. |

Will you please change your SIGLINE? |

Welcome back! |

From what I've read, it will be made by CMT (maybe some assembly done by S&W). The T version will have Troy rail, etc. It should be good to go, but it remains to be seen where its street price will put it on the value spectrum. S&W is really smart to be doing this IMO. They're taking a product that is already developed, and introducing it into their established LE distribution process. It should net them some coin. Personally, I don't see anything I need in it. CMT is good stuff, but I can get Stag uppers & lowers and Troy accessories now. |

I've had very good service out of S&Ws (revolvers and autos) over the years & you could say I'm a "fan." I've owned dozens and only had two that had problems - both of them were promptly replaced by S&W with brand new firearms.
I'll play "wait & see" on this one (I answered "B"), but I'll probably end up with one down the road "just because..." |
Were you banned? I missed it. Was it recently, or back in '87? |

Why would anyone pay $1200 for the "M&P15-T" when they can get a RRA, Bushmaster, or Colt for the same price or even less?
True, but remember decalred MSRP is often way higher than what a good dealer will sell it to you for. Bushmaster's MSRP is about $300 more than what I can get a new BM< carbine for from Bachman at a local gunshow. But it remains to be seen. Of course I would prefer the Colt for that price, but the more the merrier I Always say. Competition can keep prices down in some instances. |

I vote probably not but it has nothing to do with "never liked S&W products".
Because some of us like to have at least one of all of them. |
+1. Parts gun using the same quality parts could be had for less. WIZZO |
I understand the "just because " mindset. It's like having all of a series of baseball cards. |
I'm interested in what innovation they can bring to the table.
I'd be in for one after reading objective analysis (i.e. NOT Combat Weapons/American Handgunner/Shooting Times/etc) |
Let's face it... a truly "S&W-ized" AR would be matte stainless-steel with a DAO trigger option. |
and an external extractor? |
And Smith & Wesson's new internal key lock system for safe deactivation? |
Pricey!
A S&W logo would look pretty cool on an AR though...... Hopefully a 9mm, 40, and 45 version will follow. |
When I first heard of this I thought there would be a rebellion against it since S&W made the deal with the devil himself, Billy Clinton and for a time were very anti 2nd. I believe the company has changed hands since though.
All is forgotten I suppose. I vowed never to support them, but they never had anything I really wanted anyway. |
I think SW is more interested getting PDs to adopt their AR instead looking to have big sales in the private sector. They can promote their M&P as well as a new AR system. A one-two punch.
Honestly, if they want to suceed in this market, they need to provide something that the other maker's aren't providing if they want to sell for those prices, or if they don't want to do anything different, then they need to lower their MSRP. As far as I can tell, it isn't any different than any other ar-15 on the market (doesn't provide any benefit for the extra cost). I also wouldn't be suprised if it came equipped with magazine disconnect and an integral locking device a la S&W (for non-police).
Hell no!
Now if S&W wanted to mfg. .556 pressure .223 ammo at a price lower price than their competitors, I might be in for some. Their AR version doesn't kill any paper better than anybody elses' that are already out there with way more history behind their products. |
I think it will be a Good Thing®. Why? The more high quality manufacturers in the mix the better.
I do have to say that I one bought a Sigma .40 cal. ONCE. Hated the trigger. Traded it and a few dollars for a Daewoo .40, which is a fabulous pistol. Interesting point: the Daewoo is an extremely close knock off of Smith's line of traditional large-frame pistols - it fits the holster I have for my S&W Model 59 perfectly! It's really good to see S&W back in the "making serious guns" business. First the .500 S&W (Holy COW!!! ) and now an AR. Good. Really good. |
...and a HAMMERDROP |
I used to have a model 59, way back in 1986. Great little pistol. Wish I'd never sold it. |
American company selling a gun built by Americans.
I dont know what everyone is bitching about. |
hey i like smith products, but i'm not really in the market for another AR yet.... by the time it shows up maybe
Knowing S&W they will put 4-5 "internal safety locks" on it all with little "idiot" flags that pop up when engaged. I'll pass since there's plenty of selection out there right now.
Will be interesting to see how they incorporate the trigger lock.
Just kidding, I hope. I don't love or hate S&W, IMO more options is good for the consumer. I'm glad to see a household name gun company with the balls to pitch an "evil" assault rifle to the market nowadays. Kudos to S&W for that at least. |
It is reviewed in the recent Guns and Ammo mag (I think its that one). Looked like something one could build without the heavier price tag. Nice though.
With the great small batch companys(MEGA, GP, CMMG etc) makeing such great stuff I don't see myself buying one. Most people that still think of S&W as high end and would take there AR over the others probley will never buy an AR ; to busy cleaning there high tech wheel guns. Now if they brought something new to the table then thats great but I doubt it.
If the price/quality ratio is right for me then, yes, I'll buy one. Just like I would any other manufacturer of ARs.
None on the net as of yet. Someone said an issue of Guns 'n Ammo had a review with some pics.
Not really sure. I am very happy with my Bushmaster Carbine. I always thought about building an AR. Possibly another Bushmaster or a Rock River Arms. For some reason S&W reminds me of the old west or dirty Harry and things like that. That comination just doesn't work for me.
So I would have to say NO! 4X4SC |
Where they intend to position this weapon so it doesnt get ignored between a Colt/RRA/Bushy sandwhich is beyond me.
S&W would have been better off licensing an FNC, an updated Stoner 63, or a real AR18 (WTF ARMALITE!!!), or something to assure an untapped market with little to no competition. Hell, they should have licensed the XCR even. Anything other than a saturated market |
