After all the recent "retro" threads I have a serious desire to make an XM177 clone.

Is there anyone besides DPMS that makes a slick side upper receiver?

Several make A1 uppers but most have bolt assist.  I have located all the other parts for this project and will decide if I will SBR this one or use the slip on flash suppressor with a 16in barrel.

You are terrible evil people, I was happy with the M4gery that I have until now.

You guys are the cause of the hole burning its way through my wallet.

I may use an A1 style upper with the FA and deflector, but otherwise duplicate the XM177e2.
I found some completed uppers with the shorty look and DPMS offers the A1 upper as a No Charge upgrade.  Next step is the lower with the fiberite 4 pos telestock, and A1 pistol grip.

mmmm 11.5 in bbl + 5.5 in flash suppressor =  legal barrel length???

While not a true clone it will be made in the spirit of the originals.

You should turn on your instant messages. I have a slickside Colt upper receiver with the correct dustcover for the period. It has been refinished in Sandstron 9A, the origonal finish that Colt used.
