is it me or does it look like the area to the left of the "K" was sanded?

The "K" is for Kaiser Aluminum. Based on what appears to be some scaring in the "pocket" of that upper, I think that it should be marked "DK". There were alot of the "DK" uppers on the market in the late '80s thru mid '90s, I have one (and sold one) and I have seen several on the EE over the years. Bigger Hammer lists them as Bushmaster or Diemaco, but all I have had/seen came with no name, non-chromed, barrels that used roll pins to hold the FSB -definately NOT Bushmaster or Diemaco.

Like others said, it is a Kaiser forging.  Can't tell who machined it, since there is no maker code, and looks to be ground off.

I have a Kaiser upper and the "K" is the only marking on it.

I bought a few of those uppers from Quality Parts years ago that had one of the two forged marks ground off and only the K remaining.

It's a demilled receiver.  There used to be another letter where the sanding was.  Since there's more than one type of receiver with the second letter of "K", there's no way to tell who's it is or was.
