The M&P rifle series is based upon a combat-proven design and incorporates a full set of standard features currently unmatched in other AR-15-type tactical rifles. Both the M&P15 and the M&P15T (with its high-end accessory package) are rugged, lightweight, semi-automatic rifles. Both are chambered in 5.56mm NATO ammunition and are built to perform under a diverse range of conditions. Reliability features of the gas-operated rifles include a chrome-lined gas key, bolt carrier and barrel. Then who needs S&W?

This is almost like the Sig GSR 1911 Pistol; the only thing SIG in the whole pistol is the name, everything else is made by other top line manufacturers, like Wilson Combat, Les Bauer, etc...

Is funny how some of the "newer" pistols that S&W is coming out with are nothing more than licensed copies of other weapons, like the P99, the PP/K and the 1911 and now it seems the AR15. What's up with S&W? Can't they make something original other than the S&W .500 and .460 revolvers?

weird how arfcom works... a couple of months ago I posted that GD bought out Colt and not a single comment, but this S&W thing is taking on a life of its own...

BTW, S&W is *aquiring* one of the already established companies to bring the rifle to market, no big secret though if you think about it.
