It looks like Bushmaster is making some new M4 stocks!
I don't know if they are milspec now or not, but I saw one on one of their rifles today at a gunshow. Instead of the smaller snake logo on the side of the stock, its actually a slightly larger logo, and it looks like the stock is a little more heavy duty now, kinda like they beefed them up a tad. The finish also seems more matte, instead of the kind of gloss that they had before. I think they wisened up finally.

CavArms and CMMG ones are like that.
I like the texture much better and it feels stronger |

No picture here either but I picked one up @ a show a few weeks ago. I wouldn't say it appears any more sturdy than the old ones, which I'm assuming are made by the same vendor as RRA. (
 ) I'm still not certain if I appreciate the rougher texture better than the slicker older version. It does seem the locking lever is slightly rounded where it is checkered for your finger to purchase when adjusting. Feels pretty good on my index finger when I adjust the LOP. It's more of a dull gray than a shiny black finish. I imagine w/ use it'll take on a bit of shine here and there.For sure, the larger logo is OK by me.  Sly |

Not that I'm "in the know" about them, but from what I can tell- it's the same thing but either the vendor changed the material &/or replaced their mold or there's a new &/or different vendor turning these out for BFI... I've got the new stock in question, 3 of the "older" BFIs which came form the factory on rifles & 1 RRA on hand for comparison. The 3 "older" BFIs & the RRA are a dead on match judging by the various mold & finishing marks. The new one is certainly not from the same mold, and perhaps not the same vendor... But I must admit, this is all speculation on my part.

Except that Bushmaster, RRA, and CavArms use a commercial tube not a mil-spec one. Colt and Stag are mil-spec. |

The bodies all look similar. I have heard rumors on this board that the Tapco and unmarked ones are copies of the CavArms. If so they ar not 'spec' either. |

It is true Bushmaster did do something different. I have been in possession of said stock for about 6 months. The stocks finish is quite a bit different. It is a rougher to the touch and is matte. It feels beefier than the old stock. It also has the different logo.
I have both stocks for comparison. I do not know if it is milspec or not. It does kind of feel like it though. After seeing countless older stocks and recieving this one I at first thought it was a factory screw up. After a second look I just figured Bushy changed over to a different set up. I really did not give it that much thought until now. Since then the stock has become my favorite, it is definately more militaristic. "Maybe I was the first to get the new stock"-probably not! |

FYI: tube sizes can vary between brands. There are certain tolerances in both the tube and the plastic part. The same mold can make a MILSPEC buttstock and also a commercial size one.

For a Mil-Spec lower extention tube: Colt, LMT and Vltor. I have not seen one from Stag, although that is most likely made for Colt. |

+1 I did notice that my Stag stock was a tad loose for my tastes, so I used a hairdryer and a vice to make it fit tighter. Other than that, it is a great stock and I'd buy another one for sure. |

Yes, I understand. I am not comparing the two stocks in that picture. Edit: But you know, I think you are right. They do look the same. I think it is a reflection on the bottom edge of the Bushmaster stock that is throwing me off. |

Mabye bushmaster is trying to get rid of there .308 collapsable stocks
they probably have boxes of them and now with the Discontinued .308 there using 'em on new 5.56's just thought id throw this out there...  Just a joke really...

If you change over to the Vltor, you're gonna have to go all the way, the Bushy tube is to big for the Vltor stock to fit on. |

Wow... that's um.. quite a jump from the plain old stocks that everyone else makes/sells. They're real pioneers when it comes to making a new stock. Look out MagPul... you have some serious competition.

I had an opportunity to fondle both at a Las Vegas gunshow before Christmas. Both guns. Bushmaster M4 16 inch and a Stag M4 16 inch. Yes, the stocks are both tight on the two guns. My own Bushmaster stock wiggles a bit and seem loose while the new ones seem bulked up on creatine and dont wobble at all. The grip of the buttstock teeth also seem more aggressive as they feel sharper than the old bushmaster stocks. So I think they did change it. Both felt tight but I love the finish and feel of the Stag M4. Ohhh so very nice.

My RRA Entry tactical bought last week, has the new one on the right or at least looks that way, I measured the length of pull from the trigger straight back fully extended, 14 1/16, and it does wiggle a bit, anyone care to measure the old ones?

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but WTF is up with company's making NON-SPEC tubes??? What benefit do they derive from selling a product that won't interface with higher end stocks? I can't for the life of me figure this out, much less why anyone would chose a non-spec stock (at least on ARs they build up themselves, since it limits your options later).
This is in no way meant as a flame to those who use out of spec stocks/receiver extensions. I'm just genuinely curious. |

They're cheaper to make than forged mil-spec tubes.
Thee mil-spec stocks are also threaded with a different process that makes the thread area stronger. I bought my RRA stocks because they were cheap and seemed well built (and they are, many falls onto them and onto the ground has proven that, to me anyway). WIZZO |
