Can some splain to me what is the purpose of an overwatch rifle.  Specifically how one would be used by SOCOM?

Just a guess... but likely a bolt action or semi auto precision rifle to cover team movement from a distant / elevated position... This is often the role of a designated marksman in a small unit that is equipped with a magnified optic rather than an Aimpoint.... BUT, I have never heard that terminology used for that role....??
