I saw this battery compartment lever in Shotgun News a couple weeks ago from GG&G for the EOTechs and thought I could do the same thing for free.

Here's what it ended up looking like.

And here's the tools I used.

Hammer (I was too lazy to find the ballpeen hammer

), 1/8"Craftsman punch, Mini Maglite.

I punched the rollpin out and laid the lever over the Maglite. About 6 light whacks with the hammer and I saved myself about $20.

So, what do you think?

I saw the same ad, and thought, "So?". I change the batteries in my EoTech every year or so, it's not exactly an urgent job.

Eh, it was a pain in the ass to grab the lever as-is and it as free to fix, AND I saved myself $20 in the process.

Besides, now I don't have to wipe the smudge off the front lense that I always seem to put there with the straight lever.

I had to send my unit off for repairs a few months back and they actually put that on free of charge. Definitely helps. How much are they selling them for?

Nice job! Mine came with a GG&G style "turned up" lever on it (Oct '05 manufacture).

I only change my batteries once a year, so I'm not concerned with the latch very much.

I'm glad I am not the only one that gets finger smudges on the front lens while changing batteries.

Too easy to catch and accidently release in the real world.

Given how seldom you replace the batteries, why take the risk?

I would think there are alot of other things on an AR that would catch before this would. The charging handle comes to mind and that doesn't seem to be giving anyone any problems.

I bought a new zipper from GG&G for each pair of jeans I own. The end is turned out so now I don't have to worry about one taking a nose dive and burying itself when I have an emergency!!!

I don't think so, that's why I did it in the first place. I go hunting in pretty thick brush, so I wouldn't want anything reaching out and grabbing it as I go by, and I don't think I'll have a problem with this.

Besides, new production EOTech's (mine is from March of '05, IIRC, and it obviously didn't have one) come with them now, so it can't be too bad of an idea.

Snag point? Are you f*cking serious? It would be hard to get something to come in from the top and front of the Eotech down into that area and then move back forward to snag it. I suppose you could have your weapon slung and then let some sort of webbing lie across that area but it's not going to get far enough back to snag and pull that out.

I'm sure Eotech had a room full of monkeys trying their hardest to snag that lever before they decided to change all Eotechs over to the GG&G lever...

I have to agree with you on this it is a great do it yourself project and if anyone is worried about snagging something what about the EO itself? im sure if you tried hard enough you can snag that on something.
