drill two blind holes on either side of the device, drop in steel dowel pins, weld over the tops of the holes, dress the welds, bead blast and Parkerize.

Thanks for the replies.
 Should the holes be drilled where the red dot is? I don't see how this would be permanant. Do you have to drill into the threads a little too, so that the metal dowell is actually pinning something? If not wouldn't the pin just be filling the hole in the flash hider that was drilled? |

You must drill into the threads but not thru into the barrel.
You cannot do this reliably with hand tools, you need a drill press with a stop. If in doubt, let a professional drill the holes. If you over-drill, you are screwed. |

The YHM logo is on the bottom,my pin is through the H in the center of the diamond.
I recommend ADCO for a perfect finished job.

you only need one hole in the thing (at least according to the ATF inspectors who came through the shop) in the thing. Just so long as it can't be taken off without cutting.

the holes for the pins transect the muzzle threads, one on either side keeps the FS from turning

How I plan to do mine is to drill one hole at the bottom side of the flash hider and thread it for a short set screw. Install the flash hider and secure the set screw tightly, it will crush into the threads as it does so. Then weld over the screw, smooth it over, bead blast it and parkerize or finish with Duracote, etc as you like. This is similar to the method used by Bushmaster and others to permanately secure the flash-hider/muzzle brakes.

Just out of curiosity, would it be alright to drill a hole from the front....crud, I am not good at explaining things like this....
Parallel to the bore, drill a hole that cuts into the threads of both the FH and the barrel and a little tack weld inside for the pin, but no refinishing necessary. The The pin would be driven from the muzzle. I need more coffee. |

if it could be done I don't see why not, I don't think you can see enough of the OD of the muzzle threads to gitrdone tho

I did mine by soldering it on. I torched it to red hot. Seems to be on very tight.
No doubt in my mine it will pass the BATF 200/300 degree loctite test. |
