It'll buff out.
Maybe not. Cool pick by the way. Did the shooter not know that there was some thing wrong with the malfunction. |
as I understood it he didn't notice anything until it was pointed out to him
How in the hell could you miss that.
It's one thing if it was a 2 way range but at a one way indoor range. He needs a talking to. |

Tweak
We have a collection of blown up guns and barrels. Not all of them as it would take up too much room in the shop. The record holder is a guys Colt 6" Python with 9 jacketed bullets stacked in the barrel. Even we couldn't get them out. We put here in the mill and made a window in the side of the barrel. Same deal, guy finally noticed there were no holes in the target Many of them were due to squibs in the barrel, but there are other stories too. One guy was shooting a Para-Ord .45 that we fitted a 10mm barrel to also so he could have two calibers. He accidentally got a 10mm round mixed in with his .45 ammo. When the gun ejected the .45 round it stripped the 10mm round that was next up in the mag. It went up the barrel. The shooter felt the gun go "click". Without lowering the pistol, he racked the slide. He thought he had a mis-feed. When he lit the .45 round and it struck the loaded 10mm round obstructing the bore there was a major KABOOM! He was not injured and the pistol is testimony to the strength of John Moses Brownings classic 1911 design. Denny |

Once saw a blackhawk barrel that had somewhere around 12-14 bullets in it's barrel.
The only way they noticed was when the bullets backed up to the forcing cone and the damn cylinder wouldn't turn. It was either due to a squib sticking part way down the barrel or one of the older jackets(ones that didn't totally encapsulate the base of the core) allowing the lead core to be blown free leaving only the jacket in the barrel. They milled away the barrel so you could count the jackets and cores sandwhiched inside the barrel. |

I guess someone has a new coat hanger now. |
I had a Fihooci (sp)? squib .45acp in a Beretta Cougar...I caught it before I fired another round...
It makes you want to rethink that "tap, rack, bang" sequence doesn't it?
Had a squib in my dads Series 70 .45ACP. Wrung the barrel, but it was so slight, you did not notice it without a bore light. I dont remember the ammo now, but I think it was commercial reloads in 230gr. ball. I just remember one round felt light, the rest from the mag felt fine. Thats how I know I did it.
Since pops is kinda bad about weapons maintenance (hey thats why I had kids, police brass and clean guns - about what you'd expect from a swabbie) we continued to shoot that gun for a while (couple hundred rounds at least over several range sessions) until we finally noticed that a portion of the rifling looked funny. Oh shit, its a wrung barrel. How'd that happen? Hey pops, remember when I was on leave, and we went shooting.....I think it happened then. Well Ill be damned. Anyways, two GI surplus barrels for $35.00 each at the next gun show and the gun is still rocking strong, although it suffered a cracked dust cover later in life and these days spends more time with the Ace .22LR Conversion unit on it. That is one one tough gun and a damn fine design. |
Only if you are a range shooter. |
I saw a Llama .38 super explode in Tucson once.OK I didn't see it but heard it next door.
The slide was wrecked and was almost completely blown of the rails. It was kind of hanging off/jamed 3/4 of the way off the back of the gun. As I recalled the guys firing it were laughing after they realised they had all their parts. As in face, eyes and ears.... |
That is why I dont reload for the Ar. I will stick with Blackhills for MOA shots. Merry Christmas
+1 to that. It's all about SA and basic headwork. Well, it's time to go to work. Hope you guys are having a Merry Christmas!! |
What kind of flash hider is that? Very cool.
Oh, and DAMN!!!!!!! If that was a range gun owned by the shop, who paid for the BBL? |
It's the Special Edition Maxi-Vortex |
dunno, if the range allowed reloads at the time I would assume they paid, if the customer broke the rental agreement (by shooting reloads) then I assume he did. |
I had a springfield armory 1911 shooting reloadsa number of years ago....just popping along at the range and next thing I knew, KABOOM!!! My magazine, remaining rounds, etc, were all on the ground.
Don't remember what I was shooting at the time, except they were reloads (.45ACP). Barrel was clear. The reloads were done on a Square Deal, so I don't think there was a double charge. Never found the mag spring or floor plate, IIRC. Never did find out what caused it. Gunsmith thought it was a double charge, but as I said, I doubted it. |
sucker split in a quad, wow. Any injuries on the part of the shooter?
they got it all, milsurp, low end, LE. Hell you can even walk in and walk out with a fully equipped AR without even paying.

just imagine how much worse it could have been if those were full power loads
I was shoooting some Winchester White Box ammo out of my latest M4gery build on Friday and had a Squib
I can feel when the charge is not right. That one made me think, and I opened it up and sure as shit there was the projectile about a inch and a half down the barrel |

Not to sound like a nay-sayer, but reloads as such are not the problem. It's a lack of attention-both in the reloading process and (how could ANYONE miss THAT?!?!?!) the shooting process.
While reloading I give 100% of my attention to the process. I even wear headphones and listen to soft music to keep outside sounds from distracting me. I'm slow, but I trust what I load, and I've NEVER had a squib or overcharge in one of my reloads. While shooting, if I do not get a BANG when I pull the trigger, I stop. Obviously this isn't true of everyone, but it really should be. A FTFire or substandard discharge is a Bad Thing® that needs attention, whether on a range or in combat. So if a round doesn't go off, or goes off too soft, ANYONE should stop and see what's going on. I can't help but notice the guy shooting next to me, too, and if I hear Bang, Bang, pop, I take cover! |
whooaaa! A tactical weapons stand. That thing Picatinny compatible? |
I know it happens. I guess I have been blessed in 30+ years of shooting that it has not happened to me.
From M16's in the service of Uncle Sam, to 60 year old C&R rifles, to the new stuff I own. Never had one blow up on me. Glad no one was injured. |
I thought that was the new Chinese AR import with the gun-fu, crouching flower petal barrel!
You suggest field stripping in combat for an FTF? I'll take my chances with SPORTS and a possible kB. |
Squib rounds in reloads are purely from improper reloading technique. I you are not thorough enough to make sure every thing is correct then you should not reload. |
for a "Pop and no kick" checking the bore is strongly suggested |
Good advice, i like my left hand the way it is. |

Yea, it's funny they tried to get a shotgun to do that on mythbusters and couldn't. I figure it was just because they didn't know how to replicate it. I think the fact they are on a time line and budget prevents them from succeeding sometimes.
They drove a metal wedge in the shotgun barrel and welded it shut!
What the hell else did ya want them to do? |
