I was wondering why you can buy a new AK in NY State with a 30rd mag, but you cant have a 30rd mag for an AR, anyone know why?

We can have any magazine we want in NY as long as it is pre ban as per the now dead federal AWB. Post ban magazines are limited to 10 rounds.
