Hi all,

I've been kicking around the idea of giving in and buying a 6.8 upper for some time now so I 'did a search'...found lots of good data but, when all is said and done, what MFG, or builder does the hive mind recoomend?

Thanks in advance

I haven't shot them, but I would go with one of MSTN Wes's uppers in the EE.  He's a good guy.

Not meaning to hijack, but what's the general opinion on the Eagle Firearms 6.8 uppers? I mean $489 for a complete 20" upper with BCG/CH, is it a real deal or do you get what you pay for?

You still gotta buy mags.

Before getting a 20" 6.8 SPC upper I'd suggest reading both of the 6.8 threads (the one that is tacked and the ones referenced in the first post of the tacked thread).  You don't seem to get alot going past 18".  Heck after researching it I didn't see much of a gain going past 16" so I went that route (and I orginally intended on a 18-20" barrel).

Can't go wrong with RR.

I agree - my 6.8 host one of Randal's barrels.

Yep, I read those threads. I was looking at 18"s and got a price from Wes at MSTN for a Novekse 18". Just trying to see what the major difference in the manufactuers were. Eagle doesn't offer an 18", just 20" and 16" so I was tossing around the 20" idea.

Try finding Zak Smith on this board or at Brianenos.com.  The guy is The Man! when it comes to the 6.8 IMHO.  He's done tons of load testing and performance testing with it.  Great guy and shooter too.

For a $2300 AR? No thanks. You can build the exact rifle minus very few cosmetic differences for less than $1200-1300. The SIR eats up $400 by itself.

I built my own upper off a CMT upper and WOA 18" barrel and bolt. If I have to do it all over again I'd still build my own. If you buying built I'd talk to MTSN.

www.ar15barrels.com would be happy to build you any kind of barrel or complete 6.8 upper you can dream up.
The only difference is that everyting I do is a custom one-off creation.
If you just want a basic cheap upper with the exact same profile/gas system/barrel length/production grade barrel blank, DON'T buy from me.
I'm nowhere near the pricing of Model 1, so don't even ask if that's your budget.
For anyone else, basic uppers start around $775 and go up from there depending on the specifics of the build.
I have several Rock Creek hand lapped stainless steel 6.8 barrel blanks in stock right now.
I can build you a basic upper (CMT M4 flattop, M4 feedramps, basic rifle-length freefloat tube and low profile gas system) with one of these blanks for $825 shipped.
You have total freedom of length, profile, gas system length etc...

Thanks Mr. Rausch,

I believe I'll be in contact with you soon
