Oh ok, that makes more sense...sorry I don't know the exact model though.
I believe somewhere on this sight is a list of every Colt's production model, that has photos/descriptions. |

They start different models with different prefixes.
How sure are you about that serial number and prefix? Can you check again closely? Jim |

This gun has the best roll stamp of any Colt I've ever seen. It definitely has a "CSL" prefix. I really hope someone could clarify this. IF not, It doesn't matter, The important part of the stamp is the part that say's Colt. I do appreciate the expertise, however. Thanks

JIm, Your comment makes sense. However, the dealer took the gun in on trade from a collector he knows well and he was told that the gun was purchased in the late 80's. Should'nt the serial number give some indication to it's year built. (CSL011xxx)?

I had understood that the Match Target designation was stamped during the ban since AR15 was a bad name then.

I have the Sporter Lightweight R6530. It's SN prefix is SL. I also have the Sporter Target R6551 and it's prefix is ST. The MT6551 Match Target I have has a SN prefix of CST. This shows a pattern that the post ban Colt's Match Target line started with the letter C. agree?

Jim, Got the link. thx, King "C" may be onto the fact that this is a post ban gun. hmmmmmmmmmm.
I paid $768 w/ tax ($725 w/o) I hope I'm still okay.... The important thing is, I like it and it's one I don't have yet. Thanks for the help everyone. steve |

For that price it is almost certainly post ban. That's a decent price, and being post ban is not a problem. I have a post ban Match Target Competition 6700 20" HBAR.
The Lightweight designation may just indicate a government weight barrel, although it's stamped on the lower makes me wonder. Hopefully someone a lot smarter than me will be along soon. Jim |

Jim, I have a 6700C HBar as well. Great Shooter huh?. I really like the weight. Feels a lot like my 6724 tac driver......... Makes the carbines feel like toy's. The 6920 is my favorite carbine as I call them little guns. I'm gonna shoot this "what ever it is" (6530?) gun this weekend. No safe queens here (OH, maybe one or two) Thank's for the info. steve

Its a 6530, Match Target Lightweight, these came in three calibers, .223, 9mm and 7.62x39mm
It replaced the sporter lightweight, the CSL prefix is correct for a post ban lightweight in .223 This variation offers the lightweight and more compact 16" barrel, in conjunction with the M16A2 buttstock CLH prefix 7.62x39 CNL prefix 9mm You got it for a Good price |

I hate to admit it, but I haven't made it to the range yet. I have had it for a week, so I am not too ashamed-yet! I like the feel of heavier weapons too, but I am 6' 225. I wonder if the smaller guys have more trouble with the weight? I don't mean to imply puniness but I have always been comfortable with more weight than littler guys in everything. Jim |

Jim, I've never shot a production gun that felt comfortable to me. I have a 38" sleve lngth....... The carbines always seem short. I'm a tall lankie briar from Ky. and wish that all stocks were 3 inches longer........... You are going to love that 6700. I have shot some impressive groups with mine. Don't forget to break-in the barrel if it's new. It's maybe a wives tale. But, I always break in a new gun by running a boresnake or patch through the barrel before and after the first twenty rounds. A real pain when your trying to sight in a new gun, but the results for me have been excellent. I will note that i'm not a very good shot so I need all the help I can get. Other people I know, swear by this procedure as well. Steve

I have the exact same rifle. It is marked Colt Match Target Lightweight Cal .223. My serial number is CSL0075XX. It has a thin 16 inch barrel marked C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7. Mine came with a plastic buffer. If yours has the same you may want to consider replacing it with a standard A2 buffer. It has no flash suppressor and no bayo lug. Mine had less than 100 rounds through it and I paid $700.00 for it. He also threw in a cheap Simmons red dot scope, three 30 round Colt LEO mags, two 10 round plastic and metal colt mags, and a gun case. It turned out to be a pretty good deal. I may have ADCO add a Phantom suppressor after Christmas. It is a great rifle.

I sold one on the EE for a buddy a while back - it sold for $750 shipped, but had no box or papers. It sounds like you got a decent deal on the rifle. As others have mentioned, it is AWB-era 6520 basically, with a fixed stock. |

Yep, scottryan is correct: R6350 blue label. A2 flash hider, no bayonet lug, and in most cases the rare "CS" marked A1 stock with A2 trapdoor. |

I've got one of these also. Mine is definately post-ban as I bought it new in '94 or '95, but I've evilized it since the ban expired. It came with a full stock, noodle barrel, no flash suppressor and no bayonet lug. My barrel is marked C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7, the lower is marked MATCH TARGET, second line is LIGHTWEIGHT, third line is CAL. 223, fourth line is SER. CSL 003XXX. The carry handle has a C with MB below it by the rear sight.

Having a 6530 myself, SL prefix, FS, no bayo lug...all I can say is I hope yours shoots as well as mine!
 I removed the original buttstock assembly long before I even fired it, added a tele stock...now it looks so right. Fired the crappiest Chinese ammo I could find with no problems at all. I think they used the 6530 model number through the ban, so some variations would emerge. |

I actually sold my whole upper and then built this one from various "Gov't Carbine" and "Sporter Lightweight" uppers. The first was too dark of gray, but I kept the barrel. The second was the right color, but had a small pivot hole (my lower doesn't). When I used the adapter, the rear take down pin wouldn't go in or out without several hammer taps and a raspy scratching sound. I've never had that problem before when using adapters, and it just didn't seem right. I bough a third upper and finally got the correct color and size hole, and with CM markings (the others were CMB).
It costs a lot of money to buy whole uppers to pick from, but being Colt they are also very easy to sell and for top dollar too. Most of the carbine uppers from the 90's on will have the ramps. The rifle uppers won't, but really new ones might. Ekie could probably answer that one. Here's one Government upper I sold, with the small hole, CMB, M4 markings, and sear cutout. The one I kept had the ramps but not the markings. I ended up making more money than what I bought it for! |
