I've been watching alot of Vietnam war movies and reading up a lot on the war because of my history class and was just wondering how come all the GIs have 20 round magazines?  Did they not have 30 rnd. and C mags back then?

They got 30 rounders in 1970 I believe.

they had 30rd mags later into the war.

I've also heard that due to the spray and pray shooting nature of the soldiers in Vietnam they wanted 20rd mags in order to "control" ammo usage.

I prefer the 20 rounders, myself. I will probably get rid of my 30s now that I sold my carbine upper. The 20s just look right on full length rifles.

C mags? Beta-C mags?

They didn't make their appearance until the early 1990's. During the AWB, I think.

Before the ban.

I first saw one in 1991 and I own a pre-ban C-mag.
