A1 stocks are great, my A4gery had a Cav Arms A1 stock on it - much better when shouldering compared to the A2.

If you wear layers of clothing or armor, or of you do clearing on a regular basis, you will miss the adjustable stock. If not, most prefer the A1.

I must be one of the few cause in my carbine and 20" I got a collapsible. I only got a fixed (Skeleton Stock) on my long range rig.

I like A1 stocks best, however I do have a collapsible stock on my main carbine because of some AWB inspired exhuberance.
Tapco sells Cavarms A1 stocks much lower than other suppliers. They don't advertise them as Cavarms stocks, they are just called "C1" stocks, but they are cavarms stocks. I managed to get a bunch of Colt A1 stocks from CDNN, I think they are out now, but it would be worth a call to see if they have any. Those are great stocks, brand new, very nice stocks and they come with the tube, buffer and spring. You have to remember to collapse a collapsible stock for clearance drills. However they are useful if a youngster or woman regularly uses your AR. |

I vote for an A1...I've used both an A2 and A1 stock and I think the A1 is a little more comfortable. Very solid stock also. |

For transporting and looks the colapsible are neat but for shooting I prefer the regular stocks. I bought a car just because the ban ended and I wanted green furniture. I am glad I did because I have a mid-leangth carbine but the next AR I get or build will be a 20".

Cuz I'm still bound by the 'great' state of NY's oppressive interpretation of the 2nd Amendment, and don't own a pre-'94, all bets are off, anything 'cept a fun switch goes, unbridled AR variant, I'm stuck with the fixed stock option. Not that I'm complaining about the "fixed" stock, but even at 6'4", I've found the A1 to be far superior to the A2 in terms of balance and maneuverability. Haven't had a chance to handle a Vltor A1 Rifle stock, but that may be an option for you to consider as well.

I never had a problem with my A2 stocks, but I have long arms. I now have collapsible stocks just cuz I can.

A1 if you gotta have a fixed stock. Collapsible otherwise.
