Let's say you have a brand new upper and have installed a non-chrome bolt set, and hypothetically for whatever reason decide to replace it with a chrome set. How many rounds would have had to go through the upper before you would need to worry about checking the headspacing?

One million is BS. It is a function of throat erosion and the enlargement or lengthening of the chamber caused by excess heat. The fatser you shoot the faster it erodes. Shoot slow and it will last longer. Charles the Gunsmith.

20-30k depending on use, then I'd start checking on a semifrequent basis.

So the actual upper receiver minus barrel is really uneffected by that? Its the throat of the barrel only?
