Do any of the flash hiders help at all on the noise factor, also what about barrel lenght?

if they reduce sound then they are considered a silencer, which is controlled by the NFA...



IIRC, some hiders change the sound??

Shorter bbls will be louder as well as compensated bbls. Flash hiders aren't usually real loud IMO no louder than an open muzzle but the y-comps and other compensators are loud as a bitch. Nothing is going to make a quiet AR though. Other than a suppressor.

If it's too loud get better hearing protection.

The cone directs more of the noise forward apparently- there was a write up on it a few days ago.

A 20 inch with no hider/brake is about the best for less noise.
