Do those come with the usual HK Hostile Environment finish or is it something else?   I'd forward this story to HK if I were you, it makes the "torture tests" that Glock likes to brag about look like recess at kindergarden.

No, I need to correct that, it's after 6,500 rounds - we don't clean the gas system or bolt in test or demo weapons.  This bolt by the way has the 'O' ring.

o ring?

With that "minor" clarification, I'll need to change my original sentence:
Fu%^-an-A, that's amazing.

I was so hoping to put 1500 rounds through the UPS delayed LW upper this weekend.  What a downer!!!!

I'll just have to polish off my bottle of Knob Creek Bourbon to easy my disappointment.

How hard is it to retrofit a piston to the direct gas system?  I would be happy to hear the DoD say they will be fitting all M-16s and variants with a piston.

ETA: Can you show us a picture of the piston head? Is it nasty along with the tube the piston sits in?

Ok, so you torture tested the HK mags.  Paul, clearly your mind is churnin' about creating some sort of piston driven magazine.  Who needs springs!!!!  The future is PISTONS...not ball bearings, or fiber optics, but PISTONS.  Let's see the pics.

Its worth it for no other reason than PISTON sounds cooler than tube.

No piston head to show, there is a nozzle from the FSB, and a cup that fits over the nozzle.  The nozzle is ribbed for your pleasure and to seal and scrape the inside of the cup, kind of like the trojans do.

That's it!!!!!!!!    I'm headin' into the bedroom right now to make some demands.  I can't take this innuendo anylonger.  If unsuccessful, I'll be gone for about 10 minutes due to the "I'm sorry honey I can wait" dialogue.  If I'm successful, well...................................................................I'll be back in 2 minutes, tops.  Yeah, I  have no pride, so what!!

Note:- Paul..please get Magpul to send the metal strike plate for the M93. It just LOOKS better.

Hey, what chu' talkin' about?  That lower looks nothing like the drawing you displayed.  That lower is very clearly mine.  And Paul, +1 on the strike plate for my lower, pictured above.  I have one on my 93A2 and it does add that pretty factor.  Thanks, Paul

One thing I forgot to mention was that there were other mags in the area.  The aluminum USGI mags were badly deformed and a couple of them had started to burn, the .499 mags had rusted worse than the HK's (surface coating) but appear to still function.

So, what does that mean for the availability of the 25 round .499/ 50 round 5.56 mag?   I've got a really damp crawl space if you need any help with further testing.

What I find really interesting is the fact that the followers on the mags are pretty nasty now - how important therefore is the top surface of the follower - provided it's supported, I guess the follower could be a piece of wood bark!  What do you think?

Well, since the bolt in the LW design doesn't get overly hot to cause an FF (follower fire), and since the piston can shoot with sand, dirt and, why not, wood chips in it, I say great idea.  I've heard rumor that Jesse can carve ice scultures with a chainsaw, blindfolded.  He would be my choice as head widdler of LW wood followers.  Since it's Jesse, it should be LW/GP wood followers.

Well with the follower it really depends upon how much friction it exerts.  I guess your bolt has enough pressure to compensate for it...

Kevin, where's the old avatar!?!?!

ETA:  Will the ARM-R's have addresses engraved?  AHve you decided how you want to go about it (i.e., laser egraving, etc...)?

No addresses on the ARM-R.  Putting vent holes in the address locations on the top rail kinda blew that opportunity but added extra ventillation and cooling for the piston and decreased heat transmission to the rail.  We questioned just how useful they were.  From a mil standpoint they were important for a mission brief loadout with troops who needed things spelled out.  It seems that has gone by the wayside.

Darren,

Understood.

By the way, that's a nice shot.  Never seen it before.
