Yes, its quite common. You can tighten it a bit with an item called the Accu-Wedge and there's a pin that can be purchased which replaces the take-down pin. It tightens the upper/lower together. The pin is much better, IMHO.
Generally, I don't feel the slight movement is all that critical. I did use the pin on my SPR clone because it's my tack-shooter I want to maximize the rifle's accuracy. Just my $.02. |

You don't happen to know who makes that pin do you? I've heard about the Accu Wedge but shouldn't that be used for "worked in" guns?

I think the "PIN" is made by JP Enterprises (www.jprifles.com). I know they're sold on the Bushmaster website. That said, I'm sure other Industry Partners sell them, too. Regarding the Accu Wedge and worked in guns, I've not heard that before, not to say it's incorrect. |

A bit of slop between the upper and lower is irrelevant to the accuracy of the firearm. It may, however, effect YOU, in which case it becomes relevant. The receivers on an AR pretty much only serve to keep the pieces from falling onto the ground. They are not a factor in the accuracy of the rifle, especially if it is free floated. Don't worry at all about the slop, unless it has an effect on you.

Well, apparently the one AR i have with the PIN installed, my SPR clone, is not any more accurate than without it. DAMN, I running out of excuses. It couldn't be me, could it

Leave it alone is what I say. The "accu wedge" thing makes assembly/disassembly difficult, I don't know to what degree it would help your accuracy.

+1 I rather have a little play and be able to take down the weapon without tools than to hassle with those silly accu-wedges or pressure pins that really serves no practical purpose other than to make your gun "feel" tighter. I especially don't like accu-wedges, it eliminates play by pushing the upper AWAY from the lower, which further increases AND maintains the gap between the upper and lower. Not only is that unsightly but there's just more chance of dirt getting in there. not cool in my opinion. If it ain't broke no reason to screw with it. |

Just poking fun, dude. As far as the JP pin goes, it will lock up your upper and lower tight. Zero play. Some shooters like that. Others don't care. |

I put one on my SPR clone just because of the "feel better factor" since it's my tack-shooter. That said, my other 7 ARs don't have them and they shoot just fine.

With that pin you lose the quick break down feature of the AR, you'll need to use a tool everytime. I even get tired from having to push the pin out sometimes, imagine if I had to use a tool... I'm willing to bet you'll find yourself going back to the standard pin after screwing around with a JP pin... |
