Alright guys heres the deal, my asvab scores are high enough for either of the 3 jobs im thinking about, Infantry, Calvary scout or M1 armor crewman.  If you guys have any insights on these MOS's please im all ears, any experiences or comments if youve done one of these jobs or know things about them, thanks alot.

It also might help if you posted this in the General Discussion forum rather than the Technical Forums.

I see you that you have chosen to be a warrior.

I went armor.  It was a blast, literally.  In my day, it was thermal sights and laser range finders while operating as a platoon.  Now, it is apparently star wars while operating as company with the SEP stuff.

Watching the infantry wore me out.  Very physical bunch even though they were supposedly mechanized.

I am more comfortable in a herd, which is why the Calvary scout thing did not appeal to me.

As long as you're thinking infantry, why not 18X?  Is your GT 100 or higher?

19 Kilo,  You wont regret it,  I spent my time at Ft. Hood on the M1A1, and M1A2 Sep,  both are awesome machines and the job was fun most of the time,  except when we turned our A1's in then we hung out for like 3 months doing BS Duty.  some guarded some lifeguards, some mowed etc.

I had high enough ASVAB scores to do anything. I was going to go 11B airborne ranger. But I failed my hearing test

Recruiter is trying to get me a waiver. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Cav scouts are supposed to be pretty sweet. But I really wanted that damn Ranger badge

hi kells81, I liked Hood.  I was there with the 2 AD but we had M-60A1s and M-48A3s.  Long time ago!   We used to go to TexAnn's for Polish Sausage sandwiches and beer.  I don't suppose that place is still there.

Cheers,

Phil

GO 19 KILO.  I WAS AT KNOX AND IT WAS FUN.  TANKS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT BATTLE IMPLEMENT ON THE FIELD SUPPORTED BY EVERTHING EVEN CAV SCOUTS.  PLUS IT IS A RUSH DRVING A 60 TON MONSTER AT 45 MPH AND BLOWING STUFF UP WITH A 120MM MAIN GUN.

Track vehicles require allot of maintance.  Lots of time in the motor pool.  Granted the 120mm Smooth bore is a blast to shoot and the 25mm chain gun can take out T-72s.  Not allot of civilian jobs that you can cross over to later.  Have a look at Airborne Infantry/Ranger/SF (18X-ray).  Static Jump pay is an extra $150 a month, then there's Dive pay $225, MFF (military freefall or HALO) $215, SF pay $375 a month.  Language pay is also there depending on your language and rating.  $$$ add up at the end of month.

CD
edited to add Rangers and SF get lots of range time with their toys.

One of my good friends was a M1A1 driver and he really enjoyed it.  He has tons of great down-range stories and said that he was glad that he went armor.

Me... I was a Chair Force B-1 crew chief.  You get to shoot the M-16 in the Chair Force but that is about it unless you go military police.  You do get to check out some real-real nasty bombs, travel all over, etc.

MNshooter, I commend you on your decision to join the military.  There are way too many  in “Y Generation” that have absolutely no sense of honor, duty, and country.  We need more like you.

Cav Scout is the way to go.  But you have to have the personality for it.  Otherwise, tankin' is da bomb, too.

If you want infantry, join the Marine Corps; 0300, regular.
Army, join the Cav scouts, I have a friend that is one, he is in Iraq for his 2nd tour. They are pretty bad A.

I was an 11B and then at 36 I went back in as an 31C. My fondest memories and the most rewarding service was when I was a lowly grunt. You get to play with all kinds of cool toys and you can go anywhere in the world. As my CO used to say, once and infantryman; always and infantryman! You have to deicde but 11B has so many options. You can get into the 18 series. You can promote quickly. It is the worst job you'll ever love or the best job you'll ever hate!

Sh*t, I wish I was in the Army right now.

I tried 2 years ago when I was 17. Got a 96 on the ASVAB, passed the hearing, sight, weight (I was over for my height, but they taped me at 18% body fat), physical, everything.

Except I have tubes in my ears. I tried to get a waiver, but it took 9 months, and they denied it.

I was going to be in some "Arial Assault" unit 80 miles from home. The recruiter was saying I could do anything I wanted and was impressed that I wanted to be in the infantry.

Oh well, I tried.
