I bought a personal use AR in 99' with department letter head.  It's semi auot and the receiver has the "Colt's Law Enforcement Carbine" title.  it has the LE000.. serial number and it came with a 16" HBAR BBL and M4 upper.  What are my options on barrel lenghts?  Can I put a 14.5" BBl if I want?.  Pinned FH or not?  Thnx....

Do you own it or does the department own it? If you actually own it then you still need a tax stamp for a barrel under permanent 16".

I own it and it's registered to me through the wonderful state of CA........  I just saw that theres a model 6921 from Colt that is the exact same rifle but with a 14.5" BBL.  The gun store was gonna sell me that model back then but I thought I needed to stay with the 16".  It looks like they both are in the same catagory when it comes to legality due to the LE status....?

No they are not, the 14.5" barrel requires us officers to get special approval, just like everyone else.  Having it for duty use isn't enough.

The only other option is to have a Phantom or Vortex FS welded, silver soldered, or pinned in place to bring it out to the legal 16"....

The LE6921 is a factory-registered SBR, that's why it is sold with a 14.5" w/ A2 FH.

Seems a bit ridiculous that the BATFE doesn't exempt cops, at least while they hold peace officer status.
Your patrol cars are cramped enough as it is without the longer barrel.

The Vortex idea will work nicely for me since I would have one on the 14.5" anyway.........  Thnx much
