I just got done running 500 rounds through my Bushy carbine and with a 9mm buffer.The recoil impulse was not as sharp and smoother to me mimicking a full size rifle...wich I brought for comparison and another carbine that just has an H buffer.Locking up and feeding was positive and flawless.I wouldnt say it lessened the recoil but it was smoother.I was able to recover quicker it seems for a follow uop shot and the rifle dosent seem to be opoerating as violent as it ususally does.Does this mean my chamber pressure is lower before extraction due to the heavier buffer?...any way I like it and I think Im gonna replace all my carbine H buffers with them.Do you folks get the same benefits using one?what are your experiences with it?thanks....927

Yes, and I have to think "smooth" is the right word to describe how it feels. To me, as well as to many others, the difference is quite apparent.

Quick question please...

If I was going to order/buy a 9mm buffer, how would I identify it? Is it actually called a 9mm buffer or does it have an actual name/type.

Dumb question, I know. But I keep hearing about people using these buffers and I would like to try one in my Bushy.

I did some testing yesterday with my Middy while zeroing the BUIS and I threw a 9mm buffer in from my M4gery.

If you think a Carbine gas system is nice with a 9mm buffer, the middy would put you to sleep. It was great. So smooth. It was practically like shooting a 20", something I didn't quite experience with my M4gery.

I'm seriously contemplating getting another one for the middy.

Stainless I re read the thread and I was interested in what MATTB said about muzzle flip.I have not had any increased muzzle flip and then I thought...I run 14.5 HBARs on my carbines maybe thats why therfe is no muzzle jump on my carbine.Maybe the perfect combo if you dont mind the extra weight.(mm Buffer gives me smoother recoil impulse,hopefully a little more time for chamber pressure to drop before bolt unlocks and definately no increased muzzle flip but I run HBARs 14,5 with closed bottom 5C1 phantom...maybe I have a good although heavy recipe

I swear I couldnt tell the difference in recoil from my carbine to a full size rifle...my M4 profile barrel however with just an H buffer was way more jumpy.I used the 9mm buffer in that one and although smoother the muzzle flip was more than my HBAR.

I've been gradually replacing the 'H' buffers in all of my carbines with 9mm buffers. The improvement in cycling has me sold.

Between the M16 carrier and 9mm buffer the recoil impulse of my 16" carbines is remarkably similiar in "smoothness" to a 20".

Not sure of the weight, but this is it.

HERE at Rock River

IIRC, it is all steel and has some weight to it.

I have read a lot about this and let me make sure what you are doing.

I have both standard stock and collapsible stocks, do I use the same buffer in each or do I need to add the spacer in the longer stock.

Use the RRA 9mm buffer in place of the standard carbine buffer in a collapsible stock. No spacer needed, but the pic from RRA's site included all those parts for some reason. I was just posting a pic of the buffer.

You use the standard carbine spring with it in the carbine stock. I would use the rifle buffer in the rifle buffer tube (if that's what you mean by "standard stock")

I use an RRA 9mm Buffer with standard stregnth carbine spring.It weighs 5.5 ounces almost double an H buffer.Like CJAN said the impulse felt just like a 20" AR.Any one know how much a standard rifle buffer weighs?just curious.Say you had a post ban carbine looking stock.The tube is standard legnth for a rifle buffer so yes you would have to use the spacer in a standard rifle stock if using the 9mm carbine size buffer.

Hmmm I think I need to try a 9mm buffer. I think I will also reommend it to my buddy that has a 11.5" w/ 5.5" FH. His carbine has quite a sharp recoil compared to my M4gery and is much harder to quickly get follow up shots. This may make his rifle a bit smoother as well as my own.

I am going to get one I guess. My 10yr old is ready to shoot and I dont really care for the M4 bandwagon that much but I will put a 20" match upper on it but keep the 6pos stock. I want a nice smooth shooter.

I haven't had one apart, but it feels like 2 pieces. It doesn't feel like it has any separate weights inside to jiggle around like other carbine buffers. One piece is the face and held in by the rollpin on the left in the pic right above. The outside seems to have a decent amount of thickness to the walls, so I'd assume this is where they get a lot of the wieght too. The rollpin at the rear should just be holding the plastic "cushion" on.

I'm constantly amazed by the difference once I tossed a 9mm buffer in there....my M4gery couldn't be happier.

I enjoy it. A lot.

I put a Colt 9mm buffer in my Bushmaster & couldn’t be happier… it even cycles weak 55-grain Wolf with no problems. I picked my Colt 9mm buffer up from Brownells.

I tried a 9mm buffer in my Dissy, which is a chopped 20", gov't profile barrel with a gas port opened up to 0.100"+/-. I was trying to make it short stroke, so I put the 9mm buffer in it with an M16 carrier. It ran like a top, even on Wolf junk ammo.

The recoil impulse was smoother, much like a rifle. Did it reduce recoil? I can't really say.

Only if you are chopping a 20" barrel to 16", as I stated (and made more clear) above.

I just wanted to thank every one for posting their experiences.Im glad my experienece was the same.Not a reduction in recoil but a smoother rifle like impulse from a carbine.Where the impulse is smoother I figure its not operating as violently as carbine usually does wich means less wear and tear on the parts.Now the one I have I got from my buddie does anyone know where they can be had the cheapest?..thanks all...927
