I've had great luck with RRA for most of my builds. CMT makes RRA's lowers, and Stag is CMT's in-house retail brand-so I'm sure Stag is great too.

I'd love to compare my RRA lower with a Stag lower-just to see how close the machining is.

I have built several ARs up using RRA. For fit, finish and $$$ its a great lower.

Stag (RRA for me)
Superior Arms, especially their newer ones(above Ser.#01000, or so) with the Mil-spec anodizing.

MEGA.

My MEGA lower is great. Stag is probably right there as well. But there is a huge deer head on the side. I'd buy a mega over a stag for that reason alone.

You can't go wrong either way.

I have to go with Mega as well. IMO they have the best finish of any receiver. Stag is great but I would pay an extra $10 for the Mega. I just can't take that dear head. In all seriousness though my next rifle will be a build and it will be on either a Mega or Stag. Probably Mega though.

My two MEGA lowers were perfect and the build and fit was great with LMT uppers.  Though I do have a Stag on the way, so I think you cannot go wrong with either MEGA or Stag for the price.  Really comes down to having the roll mark you want: Bambi or the Atom...

Please tell me where I can find these $89 lowers ? If you are speaking about wholesale I can understand but so far I have not seen anything lower than $110 on a Stag.

I have heard that all of these are nice receivers, Stag, Ameetec,Mega,RRA etc. etc. but if you are planning on refinishing you may want to stay away from the Mega. The Mega I believe is a Teflon coating and some finishes will not adhere to them and would require removal. But if you are not going to refinish Teflon would be a GREAT final finish.

I've been here for a little while.....

What style AR are you looking to build up for this one?  Are you looking at a M16A4 clone?

The below is an excerpt from an email from Teknic to myself regarding the Mega Lowers.

"I'm not sure if you are familiar with MEGA stuff but they anodize and then Teflon coat them
so it turns our really nice." - Teknic

as fart as the Stags, I have only seen them going for 110 as well, but im leaning towards Mega.

maybe, to be honest, im not 100% sure, I either want to set up a plain jane A2 upper 20in stock AR, or a nail-driving 24in free-float tube AR with a nice bit of glass on top.

It kindof depends on whether I get an M1A in the future...

though I am thinking of spending ~the price of a new gun to get SIR rail system and a side-chraging receiver for my pre-ban carbine.... bloody expennsive though :(

Are the J&T uppers pretty good.

That is a good price. I am wanting to get a 20'' A2 upper next. Been itching for one for awhile.

Think I'd be safe switching my RRA bolt carrier (~2000 rounds on it) between the two upper?

You'd probably want to get a dedicated bolt, at the very least. Keep new with new, used with used.

The carrier is no big deal, though.

captainbarred, look HERE at RB Precision. $99 stripped Stag lowers this month.

Robert and Krista are good people to deal with and very helpful.

WIZZO

EDIT: I would suggest getting the whole kit. With a chrome-lined barrel and bolt/carrier included, the price of the upper is about $460. That is the same price that the entire kit starts at. Another $50 to add chrome-lining to the barrel and the kit would be up to $510, but you will now have a LPK and a buttstock assembly. HERE is the page from J&T for the whole kit. The $50 chrome-linging option is towards the bottom.

I'll probably end up just getting another complete RRA upper from ADCO. Would be about the same price once it was all said and done.

Best Lower or Value for Lower?

Depends on whether you are going to keep it or not

COLT if you think you will or plan to sell.

Having a COLT lower will increase the value of the rifle by more than the cost difference in the lower

Similar can be said of Bushmaster

If its a keeper, I'd say Ameetec or RRA

Both make great quality - fit/finish

Buddy of mine built a M4orgery from an Essential Arms lower (they do forged lowers now) and is happy as a clam.  So happy, he's buying several more.  @$67 each.
I had no problems with the 2 E.A. cast lowers I had bought in the early '90s; looked and worked real well also (@$75 ea.).
Quality for value, it's got to be Essential Arms.  They may not be as pretty as the prancing pony, but they have a decent finish and work as well as anything else out there.
