Hello all,

I've been reading this forum for about two weeks now in anticipation of receiving my first AR.  I'm definately not up on all the lingo used with these guns, so please bear with me. I picked it up today, its a Bushy A3 set up in the varminter configuration.  It has a Harris bipod and a aluminum free float handguard and a 24" xtra-heavy SS bull barrel, not fluted.  Before I picked it up I checked the serial number using Bushmasters website.  They wrote back and said it originally left them in the 20" A3 setup, so I'm just guessing that the previous owner added the barrel and handguard.  My questions are how can I tell if it has a Bushy upper and since there are no markings on the barrel how can I tell who made it?

Sorry the pics aren't great, I'll have to wait till tomorrow when its light to get some good outdoor pics.  And I know the NcSTAR is crap, I have a Nikon Monarch that will take its place.  Any help would be great.  I really thought my Enfield collection was addicting, man was I wrong.  After looking at all of ya'lls pics,I already want another one and I havent even had this one 24hrs. yethanks,
Ben

If BRD is hell, then it is much better than I ever imagined.  Sorry, I can't help you with who makes that upper either, but something will come along...

Are there any marks under the rear scope ring on the ejection port side?

I can't quite tell by the pic. It kinda looks like lint, but then again it kinda looks like a forge mark.

Hehehe, That's the beginning of the disease...Black Rifle Disease (BRD). There is no known cure, but you can help the pain subside by buying more AR parts/accessories/rifles and shooting 1,000's of rounds of ammo per year.

You will be good to go with treatment. The doctors are waiting in the Equipment Exchange (EE) at the top of the page

Thanks for the help and the link.  There is a mark/symbol under the rear scope ring that looks like a "key hole" with two dots in it.  Is this Bushmaster?  Thanks again.  I'll take it out tomorrow and see what she can do.  Again after reading some of your posts, I have good feelings about its ability to be very accurate.

The problem with the Keyhole forge mark is that just about every big AR manufaturer used them.

They have been seen on RRA, Bushmaster, and Colt, so it is possible that it is a Bushy upper, but there's absolutely no way to tell for sure.

I'm sure it won't give you any problems, though.

Make sure you report back with a range report.

Well here's my first range experience with my AR.  I'm very pleased with the results.  The first 5 shots (sighting in the scope, decided to give the crappy scope a chance before swapping it) are circled in blue.  The next 15 shots are as seen.  The first 7 of the 15 shots were grouped the size of a dime.  The rest were off simply because of me, its 100 degrees here, 100% humidity, sweat in my eyes...... yada yada yada.hift

The first thing I noticed in your pics was the difference in color shades (upper and lower receivers).
I had a Bushy lower with a DPMS upper and saw the same effect. I now have a 24" stainless fluted on a Bushy upper and they match.  hoots...looks
