Hey all- for those who've shot it, what kind of performance do you get with the following configuration:

20" or 24" barrel, 1 in 9", good 69gr (like Sierra), at 600y?

I'm not as interested in faster twists with 80+gr bullets, as I'm trying to configure something around the above config, and wanted to hear real-world experience with it.

Thanks all

Have you checked here?

hmm- "For ranges of less than 600 yards, the 69gr MatchKing or Amax are the most common choices and will fit in and feed from a magazine normally.  For 1,000 yard competition, 77gr and 80gr MatchKings are typical (both require a 1:8 or tighter barrel twist)"

doesn't say much for shooting at *exactly* 600y  thoughts anyone?

If i remember correctly, te 69 was the first weight of .223 match bullets to be released. For a couple years that's all there was. As long as the wind isn't blowing, it'll do just fine. In any sort of wind, you might as well throw rocks. I remember 1 year at Camp Perry, a Wisc. Whistler Boy team was having to aim off 3 targets to hit their own at 600.

Before we were able to get the 77's , 80's and all the other heavyweight bullets over here.
We nearly all used the good old 69's.

I have used them in 20 and 24 inch 1:9 barrels and found them fine, just check the web for the correct load data and corresponding wind tables.

I have used V140 ; Reloader 15 and Tubal 5000 with good results, in Highpower and Practical.

You should be good to go with any powder of similar burn rate available in the US,
It will yield you some good scores if you do your bit

True.  Any significant wind will push 77s around, also.

Will you guys stop it with the wind thing. Now I'm going to have to go buy a fireball .300 or Grendel 6.5mm upper for that spare Stag lower half I have sitting in the the safe.

I, too, have a spare Stag lower in my safe and that Grendel Hunter upper sure would look nice on it.  But since I bought the AR-10, there's no more room in the safe and no more fundage.  Oh, well, I'll just have to shoot the AR-10 out to 600.
