i just got a Colt AR 15 sporter II slab side made in 1984 ,1/7 twist 20 inch ,bayo lug , large hole front push pin look's like a screw. A1 upper no F/A and no Brass deft. ser# is sp3026xx i called Colt but they were no help. all that i got was yes it is colt. markings on the upper c h-------c mp-5.56 nato 1/7 the color is all the same. is this a transition Rifle. i have knocked my self out trying to find what model this is. i have been on bighammer. so now i am comming to you guy's THE PRO's thanks ~R

Sporter II's aren't transitional rifles per se.  Transitioanal rifles are Colt rifles made around 1990 or so and have slab side lowers, may or may not have a sear block, and a Blue label upper (no bayonet lug), and has a bolt carrier cut out  on the rear of it.

The Sporter II was the the first Colt AR after the SP1's,  think they just up all the SP1 uppers, mated them to Nato 1/7" twist bbls until they ran out of the SP1 uppers then after that they came out with the HBAR, Govt Model, etc with A2 sights.

The Sporter II is the only Colt AR15 I know of that has a black recoil buffer with orange tip.

They're not as sexy as the latest LEO models but they're great guns.  Mines in the SP327xxx serial number range

+1 Colt AR15 Sporter II. I used to have this same exact transition rifle model back in '84 - '85.

I sold my '71 Colt SP1 to buy it, I should have kept my SP1.

for eklikwhoa and the rest i am not a . sorry but i took the info the First time and that was R6400. and tryed to sell the colt. and i was called a lier and thief as colt has no R6400.per www.biggerhammer.net. all i am trying to do was get my ducks in a row!i just wanted the facts that is all. as i am not a Colt expt.thanks and if you feel that i am a troll FOAD.or show me R6400in print~R

Not much joy in being called a liar and a thief!  Why not just post some pictures and list what it is?  If you explain that you bought it that way, I doubt you will have a hard time selling it.


Pictures are the way to go when trying to sell anything.
