I was curious, would airsoft accessories work on a real AR? Just figured they would be lot cheaper if they did

A product / accessory made for a toy will never withstand the abuse on what an airsofter would call the "Real Steel".

Here's a golden rule from the school of hardknocks.

1) You only pay for quality once.

Even the enthusiastic airsofters know better.

I went in to the first airsoft shop to open in my area five years back to check it out. The owner had put his own M4 airsoft on display. It had an ITT 6015 NVD and an Aimpoint Comp M, both with GG&G mounts.

Check out the Precision Reflex catalog--the hardcopy. They have an "airsoft" products section that consists of real steel products that happen to fit airsoft guns: forends; Gas Buster charging handles; BUIS. Same prices.

I personally have tried a few airsoft product myself and whilst I wouldn't trust them with my life I think they're more than decent.

I used a KA rear sight replica by ICS for awhile and gotta say it worked perfectly. Of all the time owning it it never lost zero and was just as good as the real KA I used before.

Alot of the armchair warriors on this board tend to forget that they don't low crawl around in the dirt and gravel training, most on here (me included) shoot standing and keep our rifle clean and purty as ever.

I've personally used various reail covers, forward grip and light mount and have to say they work damn well. Sorry but a 1" light mount with a 1913 spec mount ain't something hard to make. Even rear peep sights are made damn good by the higher end makers.

Will you ever see me putting an ICS sight onro my MRP upper with the ACOG??? Hell no! But if someone new with little money were to ask, I would say go for it, for $15 bucks you can get a decent flip up sight made of aluminum that will hold up decently.

I am still waiting to read about the knuckle-headed airsoft-er who gets whacked by his local SWAT team after masquerading as a Ninja at his local shopping mall.

its coming

Something else to consider when purchasing airsoft products for a real firearm - you are hurting the firearms industry. The airsoft manufacturers do not pay any licensing fees whatsoever to the real steel manufacturers and the real steel manufacturers are losing the sale. Not to mention the $$$ you're giving to China.

I propose anybody who mentions or implies Airsoft gear in the AR Technical Forums to be banned.  What say you all?

Hey, you were wondering, so you asked. Ain't nothin wrong with that. By now I hope you realize that using Airsoft accessories on a real AR15 isn't recommended, nor is the practice of doing it looked upon highly by anyone involved in the firearms industry.  As for me, I am not a big fan of Airsoft stuff and can't see myself spending the kind of money they're going for on a toy that shoots plastic BB's. I really got pissed earlier this year when a guy sold me a "HK MP5 Scope Mount"  for something like $50.00 (hey, it looked good in the picture and the add didn't mention Airsoft) and it ended up being an Airsoft product that warped from the heat. It's not the dealers fault though, it's mine for trying to go cheap. But $50 is $50 and I blew it on toy parts. There are too many cheap "replica" parts being produced these days, and I wouldn't be surprised that some of these companies try to pass of their junk as actual firearms parts.

unless it was made by Tonka.  I couldn't destroy my Tonka trucks when I was a kid, and thats with some serious abuse!  Keep in mind that was the older metal ones, not this new plastic crap.  Yea, I guess if my AR ever needed a toy truck on it, I would go with a Tonka.

You "real steel' snobs are just upset because Airsofters are smart enough to only pay a third of what you suckers pay for your shooting accessories!

Everyone knows that Airsoft gear is just as good (and in many cases BETTER) than the name brand stuff that it is modeled after. This is especially true with optics.

You keyboard commandos can keep your elitist attitude & overpriced junk... It's AIRSOFT all the way for me baby!!!

Is it ok to put real gun parts on a airsoft? I want to put a real m203 on my plastic m4 and go play airsoft. If it s a toy leave it as a toy if it isn't then it isn't.

I dont think I would substitute parts that matter like BUIS, scopes and mounts with airsoft stuff , but I think I would give airsoft rail covers a try.  There is no way these stupid ladder style plastic covers I have are worth 11 bucks a piece!
