Spend the 4 bucks for a long hex. The last thing you want is a stripped philips head at the base of your grip.

Not Phillips, but a standard slot head. IIRC that is what Colt uses, and you might be able to get them from Fulton-Armory. I know I picked up 2 somewhere and I'm thinking it was Fulton.

My DPMS LPK came iwth a slotted head screw.

If you want a philips head screw, go to a hardware store, pick a 1/4-28 machine screw, they come in slotted and phillips heads.

I prefer the sockett head screws myself, you can get more tourqe with a allen wrench.

I use the hex screw, but I Dremel a cross slot in it so I can use a regular screwdriver if a hex wrench isn't handy.

I got to ask how anyone could possibly strip the phillips head off of a 1/4" screw when it is only holding a plastic grip. A grip screw just does not get that tight.

I don't know if you could strip a Phillips type screw, but the screw does need to be tight. If not properly tightened, it will come loose.

I prefer the hex type screws because they are easier to get started, and easier to torque.

go to your local Ace Hdwre. store & buy a 1/4-20 X1 1/2" Allen screw & wrench to fit for less than one $1.00

Another "Amen" for the hex. My RRA came with a hex and it made changing grips so much easier.

What good would a 1/4 20 do you?

Where do you find a long hex wrench?

I checked all my local hardware store and cannot find one. Well I can only find short wrenches.

Just get a screw driver, with changable bits, they are magnetic, the set should have a 3/16ths allen head bit.

Or buy a set of standard allen wrenchs, Ekland is one brand, they will be in a red holder.

He'll tap new 1/4"20 threads into the lower reciever grip stub when he forces it in.

The grip screw is 1/4"28.

Get the allen head screw, stainless if you can. Be careful of length.

1/4" star washer too.

Home Depot/Lowes.

And a long handle 3/16" allen wrench.

Hex head screws are THE way to go. While I have long Allen wrenches, I just use a allen wrench bit on my universal driver (you know, the drivers that use hex tips for all kinds of fasteners).
