6920 has a 1/7 twist barrel. 6721 has a 1/9 twist barrel. M-4 is lighter. Thats about it.
 ETA, both are great guns! Wish I had the money...

You won't go wrong with either. I have a 6920 and my friend has a 6721. The only noticable difference is the weight. IMO, the 6721 is a little more nose heavy and it doesn't swing and point quite as fast. But, the heavy barrel of the 6721 has it's advantages as well.

The twist the the big difference. 75 grain TAP is the latest, greatest thing and a 1/7 will shoot it better, which is why I got the 6920. Both are good guns.

The 6721 with its 9 twist and hbar is a good handling car. Absense of the M-4 barrel step is a plus in my book. I do not have a grenade launcher. I also do not mind the extra ounces. The 6721 handles great, and if you shoot 55gr. ammo, it will prove to be a good bet for most. Its my favorite of the civillian Colts. Get it. Know that some 6721's I have seen have chrome chambers only. They may all be chrome bore now, I do not know.

The one I am looking at is an LE Model, so my guess is that it is fully chrome lined, but I will check. Thanks for the heads up, and thanks to all for all of the responses, they are much appreciated. I can get the 6721 without hesitation now. 5Shot |

I have a 6721 and am confused about the chrome lined barrel issue ... From what I have read here is that Colt has not chrome lined any HBAR's since the late 90's ... Guess a call to Colt will clear it up ... The 6721's barrel is stamped HBAR .. If 6920's have chrome lined barrels perhaps that is the reason for the price difference ...

Well, I thought I read in the specs about the chrome lining, but I can't find anything. I guess I will hold off until I find out.
I wish I could also find a 6721 at a good price that didn't have the LEO Marking on it. Thanks, 5Shot |

If you order a colt 6721 barrel only, it will state it is chrome lined, and if you pull the HGs you will see an "o" stamped near the chamber end, which I believe is a milspec requirement for fully chrome lined, mine is faint, but there on a late '04 manufacture 6721.
As to the 75 gr. bullets stablilizing. I will hunt down a box and try some 300yd shots this weekend and post results. Tuff to find heavy stuff local. lots of 69ers which should be just fine in 1/9 but I may have to order, 75 or 77s If a heavier round is adopted by the Military, anyone speculate what it would be? |

I have seen several 6721 roll-marks and they are lighter on the left than the right ... mine is like that. That picture you have is a nice crisp rollmark ...
Here is a picture of one from the Sticky on this site ... notice the left is not as crisp as the right ...

The 6721 is chromelined all the way, chamber and barrel.
I shot 77gr at 100yds out of mine, no problemo. The 6721 will shoot significantly better than a 6920 after you dump a mag; the HBAR handles the heat better. You are good to go up to 75gr for sure- 77gr is trial and error. And if you don't buy a 6721, you can't join the "Cult of the 6721!" |

LE6920 1/7 M4 - 16in CHROME LINED You cant go wrong with either one... Personally, I like the 6721 lower rollmarks so I built my Tactical carbine using a 6721 lower and SOCOM barrel with the M203 cut out... Its my baby

I would take the 6721
I think the car handguards are more comfortable and less bulky, and the barrel is more consistant in strength and rigidity from end to end. Better Balance IMHO too |

I just noticed the "CAL. 223" markings. Anyone know why it's not labeled 5.56? All their LE rifles are 5.56 chambered.

Precisely why I asked the question. I just looked at mine and it is labeled 223 also. Not that I was expecting any different. BTW, I love this rifle. I'm a bit more accurate with it than the 6920HB. |

Thats a good question... Ive wondered the same myself... Just a guess, it being a "Tactical Rifle" and all, accuracy is a factor, so it might be because of .223 match grade ammo? |

I like the heavy barrel strength and rigidity also, thats why I went with the SOCOM barrel... To me it seems to also help with faster follow up shots... |

Actually I just used that pict because it shows the LEO markings on the opposite side of the magwell. A 6721 (tactical carbine) is like my picture on the gun case, with the same LEO markings opposite. The second gun is a 6921 which is the 14.5" version of the 6920 (law enforcement carbine) sorry for the confusion, I just ate a quart of yogurt and don't quite feel well. BTW. .223 on the receiver but it will say 5.56 on the barrel |

Both my 6721 and 6920 are fully chrome-lined.
Colts have 5.56 chambers as noted on the barrel. I can't remember why they mark the receivers "223"-there was a good reason for it but I'm embarrassed to say that I can't remember what it was. |

Nice setup - too bad that's not a SIG on your hip hat I can't wait to get it. I am sending the check out tomorrow, so it will probably be almost 2 weeks before I see anything hinking.gif. My dad is going to love the fact that I bought a Colt, of course that will all change when I tell him it isn't a First Generation Single Action Army or a Thunderer. The 6721 will be a lot more fun though, since he doesn't shoot any of his. I am ordering some of the D&H mags too (30 rounders) and next up is a 223 shell plate for my Lock & Load AP. 5Shot |

I love my 6721 - i ordered it because of a huge back log of 6920 orders at the time....
Want to find a 6520 this week......somewhere......any fans of that model? i think thats the one - basically a "new model" Colt Light weight sporter? |

6920 > 6721
lighter better handling of wider range of ammo more expesive yes bottom line... the 6920 is Colt's top of the line rifle somewhat available to civilians, which is why it is the hardest to get. if money is not an issue, just go with the 6920 and you'll have no regrets. |

Just wanted to post some info that I received from Colt (The LE Sales Department) that answers the question that I (and a few others) had about chrome lined barrels in the LE6721. And yes, I know that some of you already answered that for us!
This is basically a list of "Why You Should Buy Colt" - #2 on the list specifies Chrome Lined Barrels to Mil Std (according to the LE Salesman and #1 on the list the LE6920/6721/6520 are built to the same Mil Spec as the M4 that the Military uses). I assume that since this came to me on Colt Letterhead that it can be trusted - but I might be wrong! Dear John, The following are some components and manufacturing procedures of the AR15/M4 model series which should help validate your decision to consider Colt’s products as part of your tactical weapon system: 1. The AR15/M4 Law Enforcement variants are made to Military standards concurrently with U.S. Government contract weapon. 2. Chrome plated barrel by Mil-Std plater 3. Phosphate coating procedures approved by US Government and monitored by supplier. 4. All parts – including bolts and barrels – are interchangeable 5. Barrel, bolt and bolt carrier steel closely monitored against Colt Standard (tighter that U.S. Mil-Std). 6. Bolt and barrel assembly 100% proof tested and magnetic particle inspected 7. Receiver and front sight forging U.S. Mil-Std. 8. Same anodizing process as U.S. Government weapons. 9. Identical parts subject to U.S. Government witnessed – 6,000 round endurance test and 10 wpn interchange test every month. 10. All materials certified to composition and source 11. Hey, that "in-house materials laboratory" is precisely where I used to work And that, sport fans, is why I prefer Colt parts. While they certainly aren't perfect, there is a much greater chance that defective or inferior parts will be identified and eliminated. QUICK! Someone call Bushy and ask to speak to someone in their in-house materials laboratory...  And while you're on hold, you'd better grab a deck of cards-because you'll be waiting for a looooong time.  |

Ha! My wife and I wanted to move back to NH. There was an opening at SigArms in Exeter, so we moved back, bought a house, and have lived happily ever after ever since. Colt was very, very good to me. My only regret was that I wasn't really a black rifle enthusiast back then-otherwise I would have enjoyed my time there that much more
