From the Dept. of Too Much Time on My Hands:

After seeing Total Silence's XM607 Stocks,
I decided I could make a cheaper,crappier version...

Thanks to some fine deals on the EE, I picked up an old A1 and a CAR stock
and tried to see what happened "If they Mated"

First, cut the notch out with a hacksaw and a sharpened screwdriver...

Then, hacked up the CAR:

(insert joke here)

Checking the fit:

rattle is somewhere between a MagPul and a broken tailpipe...

It fits!

The index pin is original. I tapped threads into the A1 Sling and eyeballed where I should drill...
Close Enough.

All six positions work on the 6 pos. buffer tube, but it gets kinda wobbley toward the end.

Final Glory Shot:
About as retro as I can get this thing right now!

Anyone know if those removable A1 carry handles are still available?
Would be interesting blend of old & new...

I'm not quite done, I need to trim the butt some to help smooth the lines,
Maybe shoot some Great Stuff in there to firm it up. 4lb Urethane Foam would be cool, but I'm a cheap bastard...

I know this is pure retro novelty, but I though y'all might enjoy it!

Thanks for lookin'!

Great effort.  Ever thought of contouring the buttplate to match the A1?  It would clean up the look, IMO.

Yeah, I will...

This is a "just for fun" project - probably won't stay on for very long.

It's been intense at the shop, so I just needed to play around a bit!

The last honest man.

Thanks for posting, you can honestly say that yours is not the typical thread, which is great!

Good job on an unusual project.

How do the old ones work?  They don't look like they have a normal buffer tube,  or anything even close to it.  I don't see how it locks in place either.

+1 for American ingenuity, and good execution on a difficult concept.  You definitely get the WECSOG award this week!

That's a huge nut in the second photo -- where'd you get it?

Very clever!  Its sort of like a "sleeper" stock...

good job.

What? You mean the World's Most Overbuilt Drinkholder?

My family used to own a tool & die company and that was a part they made for a bridge or something.

Now if I could just find the bolt!

Oh, I see  how it sorks now.  You just put the body of the A1 stock over the collapsing stock.  Very clever.  This might be a better alternative to the Total silence stock.

At least you didn't do this to a COLT receiver!

Looks pretty good, IMHO.

ETA:  I think your creation looks better than TSI's.  Specifically the gap between the stock and the upper receiver when not extended.  I also like how the length of the A1 stock on yours appears to be shorter than the TSI model, is this true?

Looks nice and ingenious.

Here's my XM607s extended and retracted for comparison:
