His name is Victor Mederos and he does an excellent job plus he's cheap. $45.00 for the lower and $25.00 for the upper and that includes stripping the old finish off. Just look at his work:

This is not any type of Gunkote or Moly-Resin coating but genuine anodizing folks. This is his website fellas and the guy is looking for for work because he says he's been slow so consider him for your uppers and lowers.

He's a great guy to deal with also. Please consider him for all your refinishing needs. Jim

I know some good folks by that name IIRC.

Hint.

The early Colt receivers were not anodized grey. That color came from the dry film lube that was applied after anodizing. It was called Sandtrom 9 . It is available here.

Thanks for the heads-up! My Colt AR6721 skunk carbine has a mismatched upper and lower because I bought it one piece at a time. While it's not a very big deal it's starting to bug me a bit.

I thought that was for the inside of the carrier area.

My question:

1st off.. looks cool.. But.. His site says gray, then you oil it and it turns black.. I had my SBR lower reannodized and it came back gray. I didnt know it at the time ( that you had to CLP)  I just about flipped because its SUPPOSED to be black..

If it stays gray after you CLP.. That would be really cool.. Post pics after you oil it up..

I think it says "near black". I know my Colt receivers look black when freshly oiled. Until you hold them next to a receiver with the current black color. Then you can see they are a dark gray instead.

Interesting - never seen anybody offer tan and OD anodizing before. I think Norrells over the factory anodizing is just fine but I can see the interest in this

tag-a-roo-ski.

And from his coating website just how does he get the real anodizing as you call it to work on steel parts as he advertises?  Since anodizing is a chemical etch/burn of aluminum?

Take the time to read the webpage well.  What is advertised is moly coating.  Down towards the middle of the webpage you will see "NOW ANODIZING ALUMINUM TOO!"

The reason the receivers look lighter is because I brightened up the picture a little bit. This is not a coating but anodizing. The receivers have that "gritty" feel to them and are not smooth like a coating.

I used Victor to refinish four upper receivers.  They came out damn good.  He's a easy guy to deal with and turn around time is pretty fast.  I'd recommend him if  you want something refinished in black.  I can't comment on the grey, as I didn't have anything done in grey.  The one in the upper right is shiny from CLP.  I hit it with CLP to see how it looks and to contrast that to the "dry" surface.

Bushmaster, RRA...., lowers look grayish black until you CLP them.  Anyway, I just got back my lower and upper receivers from Victor.  All I can say is, outstanding!  Here is a pic of the black anodizing (top) versus the Colt gray anodizing (bottom).  The marks that you see are oil marks from the bubble wrap.

The price listed by jimtash9 for anodizing a lower is wrong.  It is $75 for a lower.  That is still a bargain for type III hardcoat anodizing.  Most places charge $125-$150 for a lower.

I didn't see "Type III" listed anywhere...

It is not listed.  I asked him what type of anodizing he does.
