Turn it counterclockwise. One click or 1/4 turn is 1/4 inch at 25 yards. Press the detent and spin with a ballpoint pen, bullet, or similar.

You are using your front sight post to adjust for elevation and NOT the rear sight, correct?

Yes, he is asking about the front sight. If you go to the information/guides section of this website there is instructions for sighting in your rifle. You set the rear iron sights down to 300 yards, set up a target at 25 yards, and you then adjust the front sight for elevation. The front post has a spring loaded pin holding the front sight from spinning up and down. Push that pin in and turn the front post. When that is done and the rifle is shooting on target, you are zeroed and the rest of the elevation settings on the rear sight should be accurate automatically.

You can also buy a longer front sight post if needed. Bushmaster and others have these.

Try another zeroing method. The USMC 300 meter battlesight zero will bottom out your rear elevation wheel at 8/3 minus 3 clicks... or the improved battlesight zero will bottom out your rear elevation wheel at 8/3 minus 2 clicks. The latter method is most recommended. Both methods allow you to zero at 100 yards, 50 yards, etc. adjusting the front sight post using live ammo.

I purchased key ring tools for the 4 an 5 detent AR sights from DPMS. These tools are great. Using a bullet to adjust the ft. sight is a pain. DPMS sells the taller sight too, but I bet bushy is cheaper.

 Get a sight tool and turn the front post counter-clockwise. Of course this all depends on how you zeroed the rifle. Correctly done, your gun will still shoot low at close range because of the height over the boreline of the sights. |

With the plethora of answers you got, now I'm confused what you're asking. Are you asking a question about zeroing or specifically how to raise your front sight post? I assumed you already knew how to adjust it and were asking how to make point of aim equal point of impact. I suppose I should never assume anything on this forum. |
