FN has the current M16 contract I believe, and you better believe Colt is fanatical about keeping the M4  contract.

I'm in the Air Force and we mainly use Colt, however I have also seen some FN  full size models as well.

Im not so sure that Colt has anything but M4 Uppers Contract.  Most of the newly issued M4s ive seen are old M16 lowers that have been arsenal refinished/Refitted with a M4 upper.  You should see the pile of 20in uppers and stocks they have at Crane,   and the rows upon rows of M4s they are getting ready to send to the troops.

The NEW rifles the Air Force is getting are either Colt M4s (both M4s and M4A1s) or FN M16A2s or A4s.  However, the Air Force has a large stock of OLD M16s.  I've seen kludged-together rifles with PRONG FLASH HIDERS!  Basically the armorers (CATM) do what they can with what's available at the time.

At Lackland AFB, the rank-and-file folks (not cops, Combat Controllers, or the like) qualify on A2s that started life as A1s.  They field upgraded them (new upper, stock, grip, and FCG) in what I'm told was one hell of a long month!

I know that my weapons are priced as follows (guessitmate--haven't seen the updated cost since 2002):

GAU-5/P :  $350ish
M9 pistol: $150-200 (if memory serves me correct)
M82A1 .50 cal w/ Luepold Mark 4 scope: $9000 (yes that is correct)
M21 sniper rifle: no idea, but it's sitting in the safe w/ the rest of the shit!!!

i've heard M4's are around the same price as the GAU-5/P (not totally certain though)

laters, Eric
