hi guys, i am asking this because i want to know what problems if any are encountered with the factory sight set up and what you did to correct them. i have a gravel pit to shoot in and whats so cool about it is, the way its layed out its 600yds to safely shoot. i dont have the barrel on my ar yet to go shoot, but i was just wondering how good you guys do without a freefloat tube?

Use to shoot a rack grade M16A2 with M193 every year at the National Guard combat match just outside Salina, KS.  Also shot at a international meet in Little Rock.  We would start at 600 yards with silhouettes and work in from there.  The M16A2 does fine at that distance at punching paper, as long as you know what you are doing.

I also shot a bone stock Colt's M16A2 at a high power match with M193 at 600 yards.  I still have have my score book, if interested I could dig it up and tell you exactly how I did with it.

Done 800, but that was a match A2.

625 yds, semi-auto M4gery, walking tracers into a 18" wide tree.

Not 20", I know, but I thought I would chime in.

BTW this was sitting and without the use of a FF tube.

600yds with Q3131A and XM193 out of my Bushmaster A2 20Hbar (non-floated).

This is with a Turner's Saddlery 54" leather sling while prone.

Once I learned how to read the wind that day, hitting the 600yd 36" gong was not a problem.
That little 55-grainer sure does get bucked by the wind, easily (in my experience).

I've made longer shots with my 14.5 + AK brake (500M) than I have with my 20".  The longest range I've brought the 20" had man sized targets to about 350y and she could ring that steel all day long..

Don't you have to have a different mag for the 80 grain bullets?  What is the veloicty of an 80 grain?

500 yards, 12" gong, XM193.  The next gong was at 600 yards, but due to the gusty cross-winds and the 55gr bullet running out of steam, I just couldn't hit it.  I only made one or two hits with 30 rounds, and frankly, those were just lucky.  On a still day (I'm not sure this range EVER has one of those), it would probably have been doable.

With a heavy match bullet, I'm pretty confident that I could get out to the 700 yard gong.

hello.  I have shot mine once at the palma fundraiser in Lodi Wisconsin.  1000 yds  total of 150 points you can get I shot a 112 with a Colt 1/7 with 80 j-4's and kept the speed around 2600 fps with Varget.  not the fastest but it works well  i use the same load for 75 and 80's.  you cant put 80's in my mags and all at 1000 is single loading anyway.  During the fundraisers you can shoot 800,900,1000.  fun time I will be making this  yearly event.  check it out for yourself.   www.wrpa.com.  Oh yea I shot it with Iron sights.  ran out of elevation.  had to hold center of the "5" on the number board above the target.  but even with all that still shot a 112.

I shoot 1000 yds with Berger 80gr.  Single feed, not magazine fed.  You need to crank down the front sight to get enough elevation out of the rear sight.

600 yard results from that same day.  As much ammo as you can dump at 600,500, and 300 in 50 seconds each is the game here.  beats any good day at work dont it?   Info about this and others shoots in wisconsin you will find at: www.wrpa.com

as posted earlier 75 amax and 80s need to be shot single shot.  I believe DPMS sells a "VLD" magazine that can work but most run without one.  80s out of my rifle with RE15 goes about 2650.

at 1k most rifles run out of elevation on the rear even with the front run down all the way. unless you have a really hot load.

nice pics grunt!!!!

damn i see ar15.com has some good shooters, some real good shooters. i have always tried to shoot the smallest target possible, that allows for the shooter to see the wobble that everyone has.big targets seem to cover up the wobble. but then again, that only applies to normal ranges. approach 1k and other variables come into play. hell what got me into shooting, since i was 7, was my grandads target. which was a 22 hole. he called it "stacking lead". and that he did. i started using the same thought with every firearm i  own. although i will admit it gets hard to do with a 25 colt auto. lol. but can be done. every firearm and i mean every firearm will let you know what it can do with the first few shots. including whether the firearm is right for you or your right for the firearm. doesnt matter a whole lot about the trigger pull. unless its rediculos. but me, i like 4 pounders.

hell you guys keep on and i will show up at a DCM shoot. hell for that matter, do they have ashtrays at a DCM shoot?

also i have the thought about the 1x7 twist and 55 grain bullets. it would seem that the bullet is over stabilized, but would settle down at a longer range than the 1x9. i say around 300 meters maybe a tad more and it would show. but as can be seen, it looses its oomph, maybe even by the time it does settle down. but anyway, good shooting guys, damn good shooting.

no, just out for a little fun.  I am a old school milsurp guy but you cant discount the ar's ability.  We go to lodi because the people are great.  Nothing bad to say about lodi.  I have introduced many a new shooter there and quite a few get the bug.  everything from loaner equipment to instruction for new shooters is top shelf.  They let us run old milsurp rilfes at the end of match at 6,5,3. If you are safe you can run what you want even at 1000.  I saw a guy run a .303 one time.  Yes dave you rock!   But I believe my run is comming to an end...  I saw bbowen's new AR yesterday and I do belive I am in trouble!  here is another at 600 from Lodi Wisconsin.  I do have other photos of other long ranges in wisconsin, but I am not using a AR in them.

I don't know if any of you were using a scope, but with a 16 power,I put a hole in the center of a dime at 200 yds, with my 20" hvy bl colt...and was busting clay pigeons on a burm at 500 yds,on a consitant basis....and my eyes are getting bad,I can imagine how well these AR's will shoot with young eyes behind them(the dime is riding on my keychain, beside the .17hmr dime, from 100 yds....like Will Sonnett said.."no brag, just fact"
