Saw this in the new catalog today.  I've been wanting to build an SP1 for quite a while now.  It says it has the "small" front pivot hole.  The rifle is 1-12 twist and they said its BLACK.  Not the preban gray.

Has anyone purchased one of these?

Here is a link to thier site.....

I have one.

It's definitely gray.

That said, I like it. It's obviously brand new, came coated in cosmoline.

ETA: They are actually M16A1 uppers, not SP1, so they have the standard size front push pin hole.

So your saying that you have one from cdnn?  And it is the preban gray?

Yeah, i figured they came off the A1's since the military spec pivot.

Since it had the small pivot i was gonna get a new receiver for it.  But if its gray it obviously wont match well.

thanks.......

Yes, mine came from CDNN. It's the old "Colt light gray" color.

They might have some that are black...but mine is definitely gray.

It's on a Stag lower right now and the lower is much darker than the upper.

Why do you guys pay so much for it from CDNN when there are other sources selling the same thing for alot less?

I bought one from CDNN two years ago. A new Colt M16A1 upper ( yes, I know what an M16A1 upper is). It came with everything but the bolt, bolt carrier and charging handle. The receiver was black. I mean black black. Know what I mean? A nice match for My RRA lower. I sold the upper but have some Pics. IM me if you want to see them.

If you know other places that are selling the same thing for less, post a link and help people out.  General comments that others have them cheaper doesn't help anyone.

The ones on the EE for $259 are not the same thing.  I got one and it does not have a chromed chamber, or bore.  The uppers CDNN are selling are much later and have chromed chamber and bore.

I am getting ready to order one of the A2 uppers today, sounds to me like they are M16A2 uppers.  Also noticed that they have bolt groups, and charging handles back in stock, what you want to bet they are M16A2 parts, rather then the A1 stuff they sold out of earlier?

Well how about some suggetions about what if any new lower will come close to matching on the color. No matter where one was purchased?  Russ

With out some paint, you will not find a new lower to match.

I got an email from cdnn stating that the upper was black.  They also said that the twist on the A1 barrel was 1-12.  So yep, definetly an A1 barrel.  I bet its grey though.  The preban gray looks black until you put it beside something thats actually black.

Or atleast i dont think the SP1's have a low twist like that.

Got the "AR-15A2" upper today from CDNN.  It is a mid-production Colt's M16A2 upper. Has the newer style forward assist, not the early big round honker used for the first few years. The forge code on the upper is CM, rather then the later CMB. Barrel is marked CMP 5.56 NATO 1/7. Receiver is medium gray.  I would not rate it new, I would call it like new. There is a scratch on the left side of the receiver, and a scuff on the muzzle, and left front sight ear.

Also bought a bolt group, and charging handle. The bolt group is a take off from a M16A1, and is used. Charging handle is in excellent condition.

Now for the kicker, it won't fit my lowers.  Front pin will not line up on the upper receiver.  Tried it with a MT6400C lower, a MT6601 receiver, and a SP6731 lower.  Going to send the carrier and upper back tomorrow.  Done business with CDNN for about 15 years, first return.  Also the first Colt upper lower combo I had that did not go together.

so these ar15-a2 uppers are actually M16A2 uppers.
so they have small holes in the upper
A2 proflie barrel
and a grey upper, was hopping those would be balck.

I sure like the Old A1 look.  As a matter of fact, that's one of the favorites to keep on my rifle.  I recently picked up a camera to post pics.  Let give it a try...
