5.56 NATO is not held to the same tolerances and has a higher pressure than .223. An 5.56 NATO chamber is larger than a .223 chamber to allow it to cycle better. It is safe to shoot .223 out of a 5.56 NATO chamber but do not do the opposite as some 5.56 is too long to properly seat in a .223 Match chamber.

5.56 is loaded to higher pressures and has increased velocities; it might damage a rifle chambered for .223; h/w, a 5.56 chamber will take both readily look at ammoracle.com(i think) someone here will provide a link......... |

Ok, so my BM 5.56 barrel will accept either. So the 5.56 is also hotter ammo. Is .223 more "accurate"?
