I just bought an AR from another member and like the gun, but I am wanting to get into building my own to my own liking.  I am seeing barrels that are chromoly and some that are chrome lined, what's the difference?  Will one outlast the other?  I am using for law enforcement purposes mainly, but also for the sport of shooting.  I am looking at building a gun with mainly Ameetec parts,  anyone had any problems with them?  How do their parts compare with some of the big name guys such as BM or DPMS?  Brian

1. the US Military uses chrome-lined barrels/chambers exclusively because of lessons first learned in the Viet Nam war that showed that chrome lining a) increases corrosion resistance b) makes it easier/faster to clean c) increases barrel life.

2. Chrome lining the barrel and chamber, if done properly, only very minimally decreases accuracy to the point where it is only significant if doing match benchrest shooting, even then it is debateable.

3. A non-chromelined barrel can corrode or pit unless very judiciously maintained.

4. Hell, even $300 AKs have chrome-lined bores and chambers. Why wouldn't you want one on your AR15.



I have heard nothing but good reports about Ameetec.
