been out of the ar scene for a few years, and just got 3 new mega lowers, and wondering what to build.  keep hearing about phantom flash hiders, especially on 14.5 inch m4 barrels.  what do they do, and what do the look like?

Here's a pic of mine:
Sweet isn't it!
Makes everything invisible, even muzzle flash.

Yankee Hill Machine

It can be used to bring the length of a 14.5 inch barrel into compliance, when permanently attached, and is much more effective than an A2 flash suppressor.

For one thing, when permanently attached, they'll bring a 14.5'' barrel out to 16.1'', making it legal legal to put on your lower without doing a lot of NFA paperwork and paying the tax.  An A@ won't quite get you there.  Or so I've been told.

This is a good start for what they look like.

What I don't get is all of those ribs on it. Doesn't anyone make one with smooth sides, like an extended version of the A2 FH?

it looks cool with the ribs!  I can't really think of any reason why they put those ribs around it, maybe it has something to do with heat dissipation.  But then other FSs don't have that...

KKF sells an extended A2-type FH that will bring a 14.5" out to legal length.

Legal purposes and the fact it almost completely eliminates flash, important if you shoot at night and use night vision.
