Does the HArris No. 5 adapter go on a standard M4 handguard. if so, are easy to put on and tight?

If it's a standard M4 HG, with the double shields, you can't fit the bipod adapter, unless you drill a hole in the inner piece, to allow the mounting screw to get into the inside of the HG for clamping.

And then I'm not sure how well the clamping plate would fit the inside of the shield.

That's why my M4gery doesn't have an adapter on it, and my XM177E2 clone does

So if he has good M4 style HGs, it should be no problem?

Yes easy to put on, you remove the heatshield install the adapter and then put the heatshield back.  A 3 minutes job.
