I just heard from an inlaw living in Kalifornia that their law makers are trying to pass a bill to "Register Ammunition".  Anyone hear anything about this?  Register ammunition, HELO, that's like registering what I had for breakfast last week.  Try and prove I had ham & eggs.

I hope it has been vetoed but dont put anything past stupid socialist politicians.  The District of Columbia requires ammunition to be registered.   Can you speed up the paperwork officer?  Ive got a mugging at 8 & a liquor store robbery scheduled for 10 & I dont want to be late.

I haven't heard anything about registering ammo...about a year ago there were some posts about a bill to put a tax on ammo in Kalifornia that would more than double the cost.  I'm glad I live in KY.

I think what the relative was talking about was the idea Californians have come up with to put a serial number on each bullet.

Maybe soon they will past a bill to register to have sex. It is in-sane !!!

Of course the serial number would be useless without a REGISTERED owner of that bullet.

From what I have read the proposal was to laser etch a code on each bullet. The same code going on all the rounds going into 1 box. The box would carry the ID of the rounds within. When you buy the box of ammo, the box bar code is scanned along with the buyer's ID (drivers license) and the match-up recorded in some data base. If the bullet is recovered in a crime, they read the ID number, search the data base and a team of guys in black smash through your door at 2am. They claim to have tested lots of rounds fired at lots of different target materials and that the ID is readable in better than 80% of the recovered rounds.

For you reloaders and home bullet casters, you won't be charged for unmarked bullets if you are going to or from a range or sanctioned shooting even.

They say they haven't workrd out all the details yet.

No $hit. What a nightmare.
