  Picked up a new(never fired anyway) Colt MT6551 for 825.00 today.Got the box and sling but no papers.Did I do allright?
  The SN is CST00642X can anyone tell me anything about this rifle?

I'd say you did pretty good  

the model number suggests that it is a Sporter model which are good pre-ban colts (when there was a ban)
