I have a NIB Colt AR15 20" target sporter model made in 1998.  I want to put on a flash hider, and adjustable 6 position stock.  My question is this.  There is a gun show here tomorrow,  would I be better off to trade the Colt for a model that already has these options, in some other brand like a Bushmaster or keep the Colt and fix it up?

I would just keep the Colt and send it to ADCO (board sponser) to have a FS installed and then purchase a stock and change it out yourself.  It will save you a lot of money.  I highly doubt you could trade a "post ban" even up for a "no ban"  DAMN I love the sound of that NO BAN

Is the Colt that I have that much better than the others?  I am new to this type of gun and really don't know the differences!
Thanks

Keep the Colt.  It will always be worth more money than any other brand. " It's a Colt thing"

Yes, your current rifle is better than anything you can trade it for now, especially since you're new and it's possible someone might not give you the best trade you deserve.

Keep the Sporter and fix it up pretty.

After looking around today at the gun show, I have a couple more questions.  Is my 20" barrel going to be too top heavy if I put on an adjustable stock and flash hider?  What if I just  buy a complete new upper with a 16" barrel, flash hider and adjustable stock and save the original Colt upper? Thanks

I was at the show you were at today.  And I have a then post-ban superlight upper from bushmaster I was going to trade.  But I would have had to come up with about 125 dollars boot to do it for a no-ban setup with the same barrel.  I'm just going to hang onto it and have it threaded and have the FSB swapped, be about the same price, but I'd still save in the long run.

Send it off to ADCO.

Wasn't much of a show today, was it??

Keep the Colt, get a 16 inch Bushmaster M4 style barrel, and a fiber lite collapsible 4 position stock.  You will spend around $265, and be well on your way to building your second AR.

Not really.  A lot of people, more than usual I thought.  But the selection and vendors seemed lacking.  I saw a lot of mags I would have liked to have picked up though.
